Young US illegals can apply for deportation relief

The US government said it would begin accepting applications later this month from young undocumented immigrants who hope to avoid deportation under a new policy.

Starting August 15, "individuals will be able to submit a request for consideration of deferred action" to the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas told reporters.

In a historic development in June, President Barack Obama suspended the deportations of young illegal immigrants under 30 who came to the United States before the age of 16 and meet certain requirements.

The plan was largely welcomed by the Latino community and analysts say it could boost Obama's chances for re-election on November 6.

More than 800,000 people could benefit from the policy change, according to government figures, though researchers believe the number is closer to 1.4 million.

[...]

Under Obama, more than 1.3 million undocumented migrants, a record number, have been deported since 2009.
Some might say that President Obama tried to satisfy the Right with the deportations but couldn't get credit for it, so he shifted left again.

What say you?

He is only after votes
Sure, like any politician. But the deportations started before this unconstitutional amnesty decree. The stat certainly gives at least a little credence to the claim that he tried to compromise with the repubs but was rejected.

I don't see any contradiction here.

The administration has been tough on illegal immigrants but not so much on the children brought here at a young age with no say in the matter.

I fully support the new program being implemented by the administration.

You don't see a contradiction between prosecuting some who broke the law but not others. I can see that, given your ideology.

There really is no contradiction with President Obama since he has zero respect for the rule of law. He seems to regard law as a tool to be used when politically necessary, ignored when it becomes inconvenient.

But I was trying to point out that it seems that the President actually tried cooperation before circumvention, at least in this case.

I guess your right, we should go after those 3 year old kids that were brought here by their parents. They broke the law and they should pay.

:umno

Maybe I should sign on to your ideology where prosecuting children for crimes committed by their parents is ok.

And where do we send them to? If they have no other family their do we just drop them off in a country that's foriegn to them and hope for the best? I guess you can just wash your hands and say it's not my problem, but they don't belong here... but I can't

Has zero respect for the law?

Aren't you the one that berates others for being overly dramatic in their statements?

But I was trying to point out that it seems that the President actually tried cooperation before circumvention, at least in this case.

And I can give you at least a dozen other instances where he has tried to work with the right first... Hell, much more than a dozen.

Deportation is not punishment. Sending those kids with their families (you seem to ignore that minor detail) is no more wrong or punishment than not allowing a thief's family to keep the loot they've grown used to living on.

Yes.

And I acknowledged one, except without having to spin anything.
