looking for a laptop -
havent really done the computer research in a while, so im not sure whats going on in laptop land right now - whats the best (in your opnion) company to go to? dell, ibm? something else? (i prolly wouldnt go sony since i had one, didnt love it, and so many people have issues with them)

I'd have a custom shop build one for you. That way you know the parts that are going into them. Alot of the brand name notebook companies (Dell, Toshiba, Hp/Compaq, etc) sell really cheap notebooks. But its not a miracle. They sell them with cheap parts in them that have high failure rates to them. You get what you pay for. Ya know.

my cousin does the computer tech stuff for a local university/college, i will try and ask him what he would go with. he gets everything off ebay and his comps are super fast with a ton of memory. also, lemon seems to know alot about computers

Anyway, my dell desktop hasn't had any single major problem that isn't associated with virus's (fuggin porn).

I just purchased a laptop through Dell. I'm antsy enough to get it.

hehe, but yeah. i dont think dell makes cheap stuff at all actually. ive never really seen one fail the same way ive seen many others die. ibm is also known to make outstanding laptops.

eh, i worked for dell for about 3 weeks- don't trust em so much anymore. all there replacement stuff is refurb, ive seen dells that lasted a long time, and many more that didn't. i replaced everything but the floppy on one guys computer over a course of 3 visits - not cool in my book. and thier customer service sucks balls -

I have an IBM Think Pad R40 and its always been a good laptop i have wireless on it and it works great ..... But I also had a Toshiba for many years .. it was great took it every were my brother ( the brat ) even threw it on the floor and it didnt even bother it .....

IBMs are awesome in terms of being a businessman or working on multiple operating systems such as Linux. I have a Sony Fujitsu laptop and it's perfect for designing which is all I need it for. You just have to pay attention to good computer specifications and where the parts come from. Just don't get one of those 3.0 GHz laptops because they'll die in seconds and possibly melt the surface you hold them on.

i've messed with toshiba, ibm, hp/compaq, acer, sony, apple, dell, alienware... i would say if your looking for an off the shelf notebook with bang for buck notebook, i would consider getting one of the dell xps laptops. with any computer failures are enevetable, and can be caused by almost anything from the consumers enviroment to bad hardware lots.

any vendor customer support sucks, but if you think dell's is bad wait till you call HP.

Guy orders a dell computer and it arrives destroyed, customer calls dell to ask wtf happened. Dell rep eventually hung up on him after telling him it was user abuse.

i have nothing but good experience with dells and their customer service. You can't ask for much more when you call at 5pm because a cd drive goes bad and you have a new one at your door at 10am the next morning.
