"The world is passing through troublous times. The young people of today think of nothing but themselves. They have no reverence for parents or old age. They are impatient of all restraint. They talk as if they knew everything, and what passes for wisdom with us is foolishness with them. As for the girls, they are forward, immodest and unladylike in speech, behavior and dress." -Peter the Hermit, 13th Century AD

"The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and are tyrants over their teachers." -Socrates, 5th century BC

What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" -Plato,5th century BC

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint" -Hesiod, 8th century BC

Hi Leah, nice to see you around :)

This is exactly what I was thinking the other day! Pretty much everyone thinks the generation below them are out-of-control mannerless hoodlums.

Hey everyone!

The world is always changing and we with it. And as older you get the more you become set in your ways and less willing you are the accept changes.
So, kids these days aren't THAT horrible, only different. ;)

Yep exactly! I think humans are prone to looking on the past (generations of people, times, policies, norms) with blind nostalgia.

And it's annoying as shit :p

Haha actually, by the sounds of it, they aren't different at all! :24:

Or you could say that the older generations are the ones who have not changed at all :p

haha

It is in our nature to challenge what we know and find our own way - can't blame the young generation for doing just that. But you can't blame the older generation for being content with the way things are and want things to stay that way, since most of then HAVE challenged what they knew and found their way. Why should they go through everything all over again?

Not like this matters anymore tho. The world ends in 279 days anyway :p

I think all we can do is be honest with ourselves about what we were as kids and teens, recognize that a little stupidity is the luxury of youth, and be the kind of adult we wish kids would be. Set an example.

kids are supposed to do dumb things it is a rite of passage

also it it their duty, not their right but their duty to rebel and challenge authority

otherwise - nothing really changes

If it is their duty, why is it frowned upon? I get constantly chastised because I don't do everything as my parents and grandparents say and keep challenging what they say. LoL

because it is the duty of the establishment to maintian the staus quo, adults are conservative at heart, kids not so, at some point in time , normally after college, kids cross a bridge, that takes them away from the island of idealistic dreams to the mainland of drudge and mortgage payments

btw i have missed your posts
