Good thread topic.
I posted a pat answer and then deleted it because this is one of the few threads that is actually a serious debate topic in a debate forum and deserved a better reply.
After the attack the USA used drones to attack one of the terrorist camps involved in the attack at the airport which claimed several lives {36} I do believe.
Should we let pk suffer in its own misery?..or should we help them with the war on terror?
The problem is in the dynamics.
The war originated with attacks on the US by al Qaeda and became global while incorporating other terrorist groups....both aspects we now know influenced by Pakistan, for their own benefit.
But the terrorists have turned on their once supportive hosts.
I think Pakistan's nuclear arsenal is looking attractive to terrorists and the current Pk regime is concerned of a take over. But internal dissension by terrorist loyalists has made anti terrorist actions ineffectual.
Afghanistan is mostly a hide out for terrorists and the US influence with their government appears to be waning rapidly.
Our war against al Qaeda and the Taliban now includes defending the Pk nuclear arsenal. It's a pragmatic decision. The US and the world are better off denying al Qaeda nuclear materials.
However, that could also be achieved by destroying their nuclear stock piles.
By doing that, while the war would likely continue with al Qaeda and the Taliban, the US would not need to expend such great efforts in securing the governmental infrastructure of Pk.
I would point out that blowing up their nuclear stock piles would be taken as an act of war. So any effort would have to be done shortly before a terrorist take over of those facilities to avoid serious conflict with the Pk gov't.
Good topic....no easy answer......
