I am so pissed off right now. I took my son car shopping today. We looked at several cars and he drove a couple. We found one we liked this afternoon and after playing all the games and getting it looked over by a mechanic we finished the purchase a little after 5 pm. Drove to my wife's parents to show it to them, went to dinner and came home. My son moved stuff from his truck to his "new" car and drove into town to meet a friend. He got pulled over by a cop for no tag and she reamed him out about not having proof of insurance on the car he was driving. Knowing there are piece of crap cars driving all over Alabama without tags or insurance but they want to pick on my son who will follow the letter of the law no matter what really angers me. I see vehicles on the road every day which are not street legal but he catches a policewoman with an attitude.

So she was doing her job??? *shrugs*

I mean, yeah, it sucks...but if he had no tag she was pretty much just doing her job. Sorry it pisses you off, though.

I will get the tag next week. Not like I could get it tonight. The insurance should transfer. We called the insurance company and got an e-mail to put in his truck until he has an actual card. My problem is knowing how hard we try to follow the law and she took a total attitude like he was doing something wrong. I know the police have a job to do but I have seen vehicles ride around for months without a tag.

um...i dont think they were actually "picking" on him, he just happened to get pulled over at that particular moment for not having a tag....and maybe that officers son or daughter was recently involved in a "scenario" with a certain War Eagles fan who shall remain nameless and they themselves were in a huff about something which seems oddly familiar but escapes me to this very moment,....it is then that you realize that they are closing in on you....they have gotten a step closer by identifying your offspring and proving that they can be detained at any time.....you know what to do

I believe a bill of sale should suffice to get any of that thrown out. Doesn't Alabama law give you something like 10 days to register and tag a vehicle?

Perhaps I missed it, but he never said his son got a citation that I saw.

He did not get a ticket but she read him the riot act.

Consider it a learning experience for him.

ALWAYS respond as "yes sir" / "no sir" and NEVER give them permission to search your car. For back up, keep a voice recorder in the car within easy reach to turn on if you ever get pulled over (know your state laws about recordings as well).

Cops always want to control the situation, but know you're rights.

Yeah the cop was doing her duediligence. He did not get a ticket so what is the big deal. If I was a cop and was going to let someone young go without a ticket I would give them alittle grilling myself. Just to make my point get across. If you don't give the riot at then most would figure they could get away with it in the future. Chaulk it up to no harm no foul.

This.

My daughter got pulled over once for some BS by an Edmond OK cop - no citation or violation whatsoever. He just saw teenagers and was hoping to find weed. He asked to search the vehicle. She replied "No, I have somewhere I need to be and I need to leave now." Cop says "It will only take a few minutes". She says "No, I really need to be going now. May I please leave?". This went back and forth a few times, with the cop pushing and my daughter politely refusing. He let her go without searching the vehicle.

Like Joe said - Know your rights. NEVER give a cop permission to search your car. No need to be a prick or rude. Just politely decline permission as ask if you can proceed on your way.

Fuck no it's not a joke.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it is people with attitudes like yours that causes the erosion of civil rights and encourages police abuse of citizens. In the United States, our Constitution, in the Fourth Amendment, forbids illegal search and seizure

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

This concept of -
" If you have nothing to hide or to find then what is the big deal?"
-is the biggest mistake of thought any citizen on this planet could possibly make - and this line of thinking has led to legislation like the Patriot Act which has subverted our rights.

So yes Redliner, it's a real big fucking deal my friend.

  /v. əˈbyuz; n. əˈbyus/ dictionary_questionbutton_default.gif Show IPA verb, a·bused, a·bus·ing, noun
verb (used with object) 1.to use wrongly or improperly; misuse: to abuse one's authority.
2. to treat in a harmful, injurious, or offensive way: to abuse a horse; to abuse one's eyesight.
3. to speak insultingly, harshly, and unjustly to or about; revile; malign.
4. to commit sexual assault upon.
5. Obsolete . to deceive or mislead.

Asking to check someones car is not abuse. That is what there supposed to do if they consider a situation suspicious. I am glad they check people cars. I am sure most times they come up empty handed. If they catch one person with anything illegal in 5000 cars that is good in my books. There doing there job. If you think that is abuse get your head checked. Try living somewhere where REAL abuse happens. Please.

If you think it's OK for cops to randomly search law abiding citizens vehicles fishing for contraband, then you need to to get your own head checked - sounds like you have a classic case of cranial rectumitus.

Hell, let them come randomly search your home - you're not doing anything wrong, so you should be OK with it.

Yup not a problem. Anytime a cop wants to search my home if he/she feels something fishy is going on he/she is more then welcome to. I would get them a glass of water. You make it sound like there searching your car every week. Or when your leaving the driveway every morning. Do they ? How many times has this happened to you in your life time oh so wise one ? It must be a total inconvenience for you. Good for the police for doing there job. Enough said. Me and you never see eye to eye. You must be taller then me. haha.

You're not half as smart as your young ass thinks it is - because you are talking out of your ass.

Visit some third world countries that have no rights before you talk shit about things you clearly know nothing about. Human rights laws have evolved over hundreds of years, and constitutional protection of those rights were established for a reason. Study history and maybe, just maybe you'll begin to understand.

Thanks for the insight on how to be a disgruntled prick. That has crazy opinions about such little trivial things. I am done. Enjoy your day.

Yeah - unconstitutional search and seizure is a trivial little thing. Those born into an easy carefree life tend to belittle that which they don't understand the importance of and take for granted.

I'm the nicest guy you could imagine redliner - I just don't suffer non-thinking asinine statements of the ignorant that fancy themselves informed in the context of their own little box of life. You have a delightful day as well. :)

You're not being a disgruntled prick by exercising your rights.

John will tell you that I tend to side of error when it comes to judging police officers who are doing their duty, but the FACT is the police are like any other people in a job profession, being that you have good people who honestly try to do the "right thing" to the best of their ability, and you have those who are nothing more than dinkleberries trudging through their job because it makes them money.

There is however a difference in people who can abuse their power in the position that they have with their job, and with the police, with their "powers", you need to be VERY carful what you say and do because you never know for a fact if you're getting a "good officer" or some dick weed with a badge who has a point to prove because he carries a gun.

I've plain out told a state trooper to either arrest me or let me go one time because he was giving me a hassle at night and he wanted to check my car. I've got nothing to hide, but I also have certain rights which require that the police MUST follow if they are so certain that I'm lying to them. Fact is, most police assume you don't know your rights and are banking on it when they ask you to let them do certain things.

I've got nothing against LEO's and have some good friends who are in law enforcement who come over to my place to shoot all the time, so please don't think I just have a "hard on" against authority, because that is not the case.

I love it know where it's getting to a point where it's illegal to video police officers when they do their job.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a WINNER!! :clap

The biggest problem in America today is an ignorant populace who allows "authority" to violate their most basic human rights.
