Just finished a photoshop project

My boss asked me if I could restore an old picture of his parents, it was a small photo only 2-1/4" wide and in poor shape.
So I scanned it with as much detail as possible and cleaned it up so it could be printed as an 8x10... I then colorized the pic for shits and giggles and he actually loved it... So here's my work.

And after restoration and colorization.





Their faces were the hardest part, there was almost no fine detail to go off of and it was pretty washed out there... so I didn't want to recreate at all, just clean up and fix the best I could...

Hell, it was only about 3 hours work going back and forth getting the colors I wanted...

I had some 8x10's printed out at walmart and the detail is pretty damn good considering the size of the original...
I could have spent a lot more time on it and got it perfect... well, maybe if it was for my friends or family.

I'm still unhappy with their heads... The hair and face just doesn't fit with the rest of the photo..

Even the original had it been in color would not have had much detail, as the average cameras back then couldn't reproduce it, I thought. In fact, the colorized pic looks very much like the color ones I remember from the 60s. Do you know when the pic was taken?

But maybe adding more detail would have made it look worse, if you know what I mean - so great job IMO

The date on the back of the photo was 1950
and I was surprised at how much detail I was able to pull out of such a small picture.
The original was 2-3/8" X 4-1/8" and I scanned it in at 2400 pixels/inch, the file size was well over 300 megabytes.

On the original pic, I couldn't see the buttons on her coat. But after the scan, I was able to zoom in close enough that I could actually see the 2 holes for the thread.
