Watched this tonight and found it the most morrally reprehensible film I've ever seen, was it made by a collaberation of Sunny D and some adoption agency? Discss.

The actress blew me away in this performance, it's also well scripted. I don't find the issues on it to be a huge deal like teen pregnancy, it happens often these days. It's a very emotional film which took a direction of humor, I like that best.

it sucked hard
it glorified teen pregnancy
and really was about nothing other than the fact that she was pregnant and had a smart ass mouth.

I loved it! And I love the soundtrack! I don't see how it glorified teen pregnancy, I wouldn't want to be in that girl's shoes for anything. I'm a teen and it didn't make me wanna get pregnant, just the opposite.

I loved Ellen Page and Michael Sera, they were so funny!

I didn't even realize that guy was Jason Bateman.

maybe glorified is extreme
but when i was a teen, if you were the one knocked up, you certainly weren't the one walking around with the smart ass mouth.
i do like both those actors but it was a movie about nothing and if i had a daughter that ended up preggo with a mouth like that, well, i'm just sayin.....

LOL I liked it. It was different, but very real. This is something that happens in real life. The decisions we as adults face are also faced by some teens.

Junos quirky attitude was funny to me.

Here's my short review on criticker:
A while ago I would have given this a 70, but it's grown on me. I don't think the dialogue is as unrealistic as others -- just exaggerated -- and I think it captures the teens who go on the internet really well. I've seen them try to one up each other with things like bands constantly. This is a more realistic film than people say, and it's touching and sometimes funny. It's charming and Ellen Page is convincing in the role, not to mention pretty (it helps).

But with that said, it's realistic in the way it treats Juno. It's not really a gritty, serious look at teen pregnancy even if it does tackle the issue.

She walks away from it, happy as Larry with the guy who knocked her up playing guitar and not a care in the world, like what you might expect if you gave your baby away!:thumbdown

The reason she was okay with not keeping the baby is because she found a person who would be happy with the kid. Someone who desperately wanted a baby. It's not as extreme as Peter said, wedz, so just watch it.

Do you think she would be happy for the rest of her life about that though? I defy anyonewho has ever given their kid up for adoption to not have serious guilt and more problems because of it.

I think it's a quirky comedy and not a completely serious look at teen pregnancy.

I mean, it doesn't really matter if she'd be happy for the rest of her life with her decision -- how can we know? We don't see the rest of her life. It seems kind of... uh, off, to criticize a movie based on what might happen later. All we see is the guilt/bad feelings she feels at first which she overcomes later on.

Now, if we get Juno: Middle Aged Woman Drinks Beer Instead of Sunny D and Name Drops Old Old Old Bands, then we'll have that conversation ;)

Haha! Get your point. I just find it extremely irresponsible, especially as it is blatently directed at teenagers and has far too big a glossy image projeced on the whole thing.

Haha, Fair enough. I can see how you could come to that conclusion.

I think the only thing that is completely realistic about it is the kind of person Juno is because I've seen that type of person way too many times since I got the net way back when. That ultra cool, I know more than you I name drop lots of bands type of person.

Also: I think the dialogue was awesome, alive and original. There is an element of truth to that kind of dialogue existing but I just think it's really exaggerated.

Yeah, I agree with that. Guess I'm turning into an old fart now seeing how irritating I found the over use ofthe word "like" though, in it.:willy_nilly: On a plus side, I thought the step mum was well done and was one thing that didn't stick to silly stereotypes, thought it would go like the rest of the stereotypes and have her as an evil bitch, it was most refreshing and realistic that they got away from that!

Indeed, I liked that too.

I'm not in love with the movie. In fact, it was a bit of a let down for me and my girlfriend when we went to see it. But I mean, I ended up giving it an 88/100 (which maybe is a little too high now that I think about it... maybe an 82 or something, oh well) on criticker, even though when I first saw it I gave it a 70. I think that the movie has some charm. It's... cute.

That's exactly how I felt about it. I wasn't that impressed by it at first but it grew on me and I found it entertaining and clever.

She walks away from it, happy as Larry with the guy who knocked her up playing guitar and not a care in the world, like what you might expect if you gave your baby away!:thumbdown
I don't think playing guitar with the father of the baby necessarily means she didn't have a care in the world. People cope with life in different ways. I thought her situation seemed depressing and scary for her, not glorified in the least to me.

But I don't need a movie to be realistic or preach a morality lesson to enjoy it. If it entertains me, I like it, that's the only criteria I go by.
