Japan has "drop off" box for unwanted babies

Dont get me wrong...the "drop off box" is a good plan...it saves children.

But the concept and the reason behind it...the idea that there are people that are responsible for the need of such a thing....just disturbing.

I don't think its strange that their are moms that aren't in the position to raise a child. if anything they have the child's best interest by dropping it off.

it's called the safe haven law in the US, i think every state has it's own grace period though, here in AZ it's 2 months. I'm not appalled by it but i do find it sad. it's better than finding dead babies in dumpsters or shaken baby syndrome.

Baby drop-box/hatch are very common in churches across Europe, and I think more places could do well to follow the example of European churches, and the Japanese hospital. It's sad that it has to be this way, but better this than leave the babies somewhere to starve or freeze to death. I'd much rather see a baby in a drop-box with an attending staff than a dumpster.

Pony, is right we do have that here in our society. Here we call it safe baby. I would much rather see a baby safe and have someone take care of it rather than a mother who can't. I also commend the mothers that realize that they aren't able to take care of a baby and turn them in to places like this. I do not commend them if they don't do something about protection and just keep having babies for the sake of having them.

I agree with AIF if these people are irresponsible enough to have an unwanted prregnancy at least they make the responsible decision to give it up ( as unideal as that situation is) and make it possible for that child to have a family that really wants a baby, after all there are so many people out there waiting for babies out there that that cant have children of their own.
