So... I thought I'd ask, I think Amy might be able to help me with this one.

Back in high school you know they make you play all these sports to pass blah blah. Well, my least favorite sport to play was soccer, it sucks, it's unAmerican... yeah thats my take on Soccer.

Anyway, during the course of my middle and high school career, I think I sprained the same ankle 5-6 times... roughly once a year playing this retarded ass sport.

Now I get to live with the pain of soreness in my ankle.

When I'm standing up, it doesn't really hurt that much. There are times when (what feels like) the tendons are tender, and there's a piercing pain around the bottom part of the heel of my foot, up around to the top side just below the ankle bone. When I'm not standing on it (aka no pressure) it just feels sore. Sometimes it's bad enough that it'll wake me up out of a deep sleep until I do something about it.

My only recourse in keeping it from hurting is is slapping on my 6 dollar ankle brace I bought 5 years ago at Meijer and taking an aspirin.

WHAT is the cause of this? (if you need any specifics, ask)... and aside from living with it day to day, what can I do to fix the problem instead of bandaging the 'wound' so to speak?

Does popping my ankles (like you would your knuckles) aid the cause of why it's hurting? Aside from the above mentioned quick fixes so I can get some sleep, it's the only thing that seems to help to shortly relieve the sore feeling (I guess by putting pressure on the joints and tendons to stretch them?)

I actually have the same problem. I went to a doc about it and he told me that it was a tendon that was swollen.. that he could go in there and cut on it, but it would be a painful surgery that would cost alot for something that was life threatening painful.

So my tendon has been swollen for a good 10+ years now? I guess it could be... I'd think it'd be a hyper extended tendon or something of that nature.

I've never been to the doctor about this, because as annoying as it is, it's not worth the copay when I'm broke.

I know what you mean. I THINK it was swollen because of something else hitting it or something.. i cant remember exactly. Mine has been giving me problems for 3+ years now. I also have OCD in my knee cap.

when it deals with ankles most likely it's tendon's or you just have little cardiledge keeping the bones from rubbing.

I'm having a similar issue but in my shoulder...i think i need to have a second surgery on my shoulder to fix this problem then probably a third shoulder surgery just to touch up the last of everything.

OK soccer is unAmerican I agree with that. you know james I had the same problem in school except it was in my neck. My doc told me I pulled a nerve in my neck and it felt like exactly like you described it. He told me to just let it rest and heal itself. Ice packs would be good.

whether football players are pussies and rugby players are suicidal, it's for you guys to decide. I myself think that protection is needed so you don't have to worry about breaking your back and such. With pads, you can really focus on tacking and stuff rather than think about pain. thats my $0.02. I played football for my high school, and you do get injuries.

Sorry if you don't feel the same way as I do... but I just hate soccer, I don't find it exciting and I'm dreading the fact that it's now becoming more and more popular in the US. I don't want to watch it, I don't want to hear about it.

I care about Hockey, football and baseball... although I'd rather watch hockey 7 days a week over either of the other two sports.

But anyway, the other thing I do is if I'm standing in one spot and go to turn around, if I twist it inward it shoots a stinging pain that continues for a while also. So, as JMilley suggested it could be a nerve or even cartiledge buildup hitting that nerve, etc.

All I know is it sucks to get woken up by your ankle.

I would have it checked out by your local othopedic specialist. It could be something serious, like a bone spur.

 Oh sure I ask for help and then you tell me that. :lol

I gotta wait for some insurance coverage to kick on here. Otherwise... MRI? orthopedic specialist? HAHAHAHAHHA!!!

Sure let me dip into my lottery winnings that I haven't won yet.

You proabbly have the beginings of Arthritus. Ankle injuries, Knee injuries, pretty much all injuries that are associated with ajoining bones that are damaged will suffer from some bone degeneration. It's usually minor in younger people because the body can heal itself quicker.
Take Coral calcium and Via Vientee.
