(Reuters) - A visit by American pop star Beyonce and rapper husband Jay-Z to Havana last week was a cultural trip that was fully licensed by the U.S. Treasury Department, a source familiar with the itinerary said on Monday.

The longstanding U.S. trade embargo against Cuba prevents most Americans from traveling to the communist-led island without a license granted by the U.S. government.

Three Cuban-American members of Congress, all Republicans from Miami and supporters of a firm stance on Cuba, have asked the Treasury Department to look into the licensing of the trip, prompting officials to seek more information from the organizers.

Are they still such a threat? Are we really such supporters of freedom that we're willing to force it on a country that doesn't want it, or at least punish them for not fighting for it?

MIAMI (AP) — Less than a year after maritime freight shipping between the U.S. and Cuba was launched for the first time in five decades, the service has come to a halt.
After the service was launched last July, thousands of customers sent humanitarian goods and items that are difficult to ship by air — such as refrigerators and washing machines.
The Associated Press followed packages that were due to ship out in December. The ship never launched and the packages were sent by air instead.
The items took more than a month to get to family and the maritime service has stopped.
The International Port Corp. says the boat didn't ship because of a leak. But the company is also facing lawsuits for alleged non-payment from the charter vessel company and owner of the dock.

After 50 years the ban does not seem to be having much effect on them. The same restrictions on folks from their own government are still in place. We might do more good by allowing trade and letting folks have access to American goods.

I can understand why they were put in place but they seem to benefit others far more and hurt US companies since the end of the cold war then anything else. Nothing made communism fall faster than opening the doors to the people in every country and letting freedom seep in. Ironic how Russia and China have bowed to a more capitalistic economy and how it has hurt our Western ones.

Damn those commies have figured out to beat us its faster to do it our way. Now if only rogue States can catch on we will be defeated :-(
