LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Sony Corp. said on Tuesday it had pulled a Dutch billboard advertising campaign for the new white version of its PlayStation Portable video game player and apologized to anyone offended by the ad, which critics dubbed racist.

Do you really think that this billboard protays racism? I don't, hell I wouldn't have given it a second thought if I drove by it. Are we getting too sensitive when it comes to black/white or racist issues? Why can't we joke about this stuff?[/url]

why is it that the "white people" are the racists ones? I mean black people have there black months of choice i.e. history, music etc... so does that mean they are racist towards us? What if we had a "white" day?

It probably is racist, but it seems to me that these definitions are becoming very blurry. Using the word nigger if you are white is racist but if you are black, it's not. Remembering special days or events about minority groups is ok but not about the majority.

I used to hang out with a lot people who could be called New Australians, in other words they or their parents came from overseas. Two of these guys had the same name, Michael - normally shortened to Mick, so we used to call one of them "Mick Wog". This was a term of endearment amongst our group & certainly no one used it as a slur, but one day we were looking for Mick Wog & tried calling for him when someone called back - "go home wog".

This was very upsetting as I realised that by using these terms I was giving permission for others to use them & they weren't using them in the same way. I never again referred to my friend as Mick Wog, or anyone else.

I think that some people use whatever they can get their hands on to further racial hatred & that sometimes, innocently, we help them along. That is why we must be a little bit careful.

Well apparently the black guy on the billboard didn't mind considering I'm sure they shot the photo specifically for the PSP white, so I bet there are others that could care less, too. Some people just need an easy way to make money and get attention.

i dont mind at all. i dont think there is a problem with the billboard. or with your reversed-roles billboard.
