Is There a Reason for Prejudice Against ALL Children/Young Teens on the Internet?

So first off, this is my first thread, and I'm not 100% sure if this is the right place to put it, but I wanted to talk about something I experience a lot when I go into chatrooms or play Call of Duty online.

People seem to automatically treat me as a second-class person, because they can tell that I'm under 15. (I'm 13). Apparently, they think they know what my penis looks like, and I get insulted as soon as I say "Hello"

Whenever I'm in an internet community, I am mature, I don't flame, I use proper grammar, and I do my best to contribute to that community as much as I can.

I'm not trying to rant, but I'm kind of confused. If I'm a good egg, then why do I get treated so poorly?

I don't know if I sound stupid or whiny, so please be honest with me.... It baffles me why I get treated so badly when I act acceptably.

To answer the OP's question, no offense, but I don't think I have much in common with a 13 year old now a days, unless you want some "fatherly" advice. That said, your thread IMO is written better than some 40 year "olds" I know

One cannot assume that anyone at any age will earn respect on any site just because, so it has nothing to do with your age..

Seeing none of us have seen how you talk on that site, its kinda hard to tell..

Perhaps it's jealousy. You know, wishing they were young again. Probably some stereotyping going on too... I knew this 13 year old brat so all 13 year old kids are brats. But don't despair, the world is yours. Just give it time.

i play online games as well and although i dont consider myself an idiot, i consider the majority of douchebags who insist on yelling on the mic/playing music/trash talking/using tasteless unoriginal profanities, idiots

A lot of people that are older than you are just going to assume that b/c you're 13 you're like every other 13 year old out there. We have a young poster here by the name of Ryder who was, if I remember correctly, 14 when he started posting here. He is more well-spoken and respected than many of our older members. I don't judge members based on their age...but a lot of people do, unfortunately.

i think, also, its actually a shot at his voice i hear "come back when your balls have dropped" more often than penis size
but hes 13, so he might not know the difference

I think I was 13. It's gonna be four years since I joined in November. And I thought I could go into this thread saying "*ahem* teen here."

But yeah. I get what the dude is saying. I expected that to happen to me when I first joined but all the members treated me with respect and I found that I love this place. Chin up man. Not everywhere hate teens. Hell, they put up with me for this long. They all deserve a medal. But if they can put up with me they can put up with you.

Umm no I think you're missing the point, its a jab at a young kid playing a game aimed for mature gamers. Adults mostly. But then you get the 17 mean machines thinking its keen to bust the balls of any kid who sounds under 15.I'm sure you know this when puberty hits the voice deepens, so when you you hear a boy sounding young he's an open target for these creatons

And I agree with whoever said the online gaming community is full of idiots. Trust me, the odd few trolls you get on here are nothing compared to what you get in online gaming. It seems there are thousands of twats who just purely go on there to throw loads of abuse at random people.

Because for every decent, mature 13 year old out there, there are a dozen kids who think acting like dicks online is hella funny, or will ruin a game for other people through their own complete lack of skill and wisdom.

I'm not trying to be insulting - I played WoW for three years, I know teenagers who made adults look bad - but the fact is, you might be a nice kid but a lot of online gamers will have experienced some noob who had a right attitude on him.

I'd get used to it if I were you, Kilobii. You throw yourself in with a crowd of online strangers, you're likely to get some who will rag on you, regardless of age. If you were 50, they'd insult you for being old, if you were the same age they'd find something else.

No, I understand the point...but discussing any type of genitalia w/ a minor is just wrong, whether it's part of some tough guy gaming persona or not. But that's just my opinion (and Peter's, it looks like).

Its not about how you sound or your age. All these "kids" on Xbox Live suddenly have carte blanche to say whatever they want without repercussions. I get it all the time while playing GOW online and I'm a cough, cough, older gamer. People would never say the things they do to people in their face but aren't scared to do so online. Most of these people fall into two categories. Repressed teens who get picked on at school or a-hole jocks. Heck, I even hear this crap out of girls (have no idea how old I don't talk much online). Its disheartening to say the least.

Just keep your wit about you, you sound like an intelligent young man and I think you should be proud of yourself for how you handle yourself. What I have done is to find friends I game with regularly and just be in a party to talk to them only this way we don't have to listen to the fools.
