IS skype genuine?

Skype! IS this service genuine? I just was going throu the skype forum. Stunned to read how skype charged people on their credit cards with out their knowledge! Now dont know if skype is responsible for it , or some hacker has done it! But its kind of spooky! Worst was when i read a post saying , Skype charged a person just cause he was on their forum. (supposedly free) . I logged out immediately.
