I've used Trend (free at home) and Symantec Endpoint (at work) and have been happy with both (so far).

Right now I'm just using Spybot.
thats just for spyware and IE cookies and malware...
i use Avast!. its pretty good. it updates itselft (both the program and the virus definitions) every few days, and it has a pretty good interface that resembles a music player on the computer (play, pause, etc). you can select quick, normal, or thorough scans.

NOD 32 is one of the better AV's, it's just EXTREMELY complicated to learn. You literally have to understand programming to be able to properly use it, but if you can it can be the best AV available. However Kasparskey is generally rated the best AV for home use, unfortunately it's not free. The best free version that I've used and tested is AVG.
