This was inspired from another thread, where it was said that homosexuality is a dangerous lifestyle, more so than heterosexuality. Can anyone actually defend that statement?

Its dangerous cause people make it that way.... you can get harassed or beat up for it or whatever for kids in school.. i guess that would be one way of looking at it?

I think that statement used to be more true, because when AIDS first became prominent, it was most commonly found to be passed through male/male sex, and to females by men who were homosexual. However, today, when promiscuity is more common place, I don't necessarily believe that one lifestyle is more dangerous than another.

It's not a persons sexuality which is dangerous, it's the responsibility they take with their sex life that makes it more dangerous or not. A gay man in a long term relationship, only having sex with his partner is a hell of a lot safer than a hetrosexual man who goes out drinking every weekend and has a series of one night stands, especially if he isn't very careful about wearing condoms.
The statement that homosexuality is more dangerous than hetrosexuality, I find franky absurd.
To whole debate of it is pretty meaninless either seeing people can't help their sexuality, what next? Arguing whether it's safer to be a man or a woman? Whether it's safer to be black or white?

Someone leads a dangerous life because they chose to do so, be they Gay, straight, Bi whatever

I agree with Peter in that the way you choose to do things in your sex life is what is dangerous. My uncle has been gay pretty much his entire life I think (lol) and he's never had any STD's or anything like that. But, I have a friend that has only had sex with 2 people her whole life, and she's heterosexual, and she just found out the other day that she's HIV positive. It boils down to the amount of protection, or lack thereof, that you have being sexually active.

I'm curious, what makes you think promiscuity is more common nowadays?

This is ridiculous.. Only Homophobes would say such a thing. Homosexuals can protect themselves just as well as heterosexuals can. If a gay male gets HIV it's because he (regardless of his sexuality) made the decision to not protect himself.

People can also site the history of homosexuals having a high rate of contracting HIV or AIDS. Yet again, this is only because back then a large amount of homosexuals made the choice not to protect themselves. Since then both sexualities have been greatly educated on HIV and AIDS, and thus the number of people contracting the disease per capita has dropped.

heterosexuality is equally dangerous when youre bent over with well endowed man behind you.

hiv and other stds are on the increase in the straight community.

your sexuality doesnt determine whether you have one or many partners, there are tarts on boths camps

the greatest invention in history is the chocolate flavoured condom,so at least one good thing came out of the 80s aids panic, and theyre safe because you have less chance of gagging to death.(you can buy 100 of them at a very inexpensive price on ebay by the way,and on my hubbies crimbo list...bless)

Actually, some of this can be attributed to the rise in the number of uneducated teens having sex.

Besides, when you take the number of straight people vs. the number of gay people, you have to take proportions, not actual numbers in order to be a valid statistic.
