Is America ready for a black president?

If he can properly run the country, I don't care if he's purple!!! ;)

Indeed. would he have been my choice in the event that I could vote? No

As I told my wife on a fe discussions weve had about this before.

He said this and that, both candidates did! and in my book candidates will say near damn anything in hopes that voters bite on and join their cause. It is now showtime and we will all see if he will indeed do the things he said he would do or just like many politicians go on about an entirely different agenda... Only time will tell.

In my honest opinion, given the current state of the economy ahnd the country as a whole, I dont think it is the right time for the US to have a black president (In my opinion!).

and btw what youre calling America is only part of the North American continent... this is the United States of America.

It is a great time for a black president

I can not stand him because of his proposed policies but this is going to be a defining moment in our history. The blacks can not continue to use the racism charge. Sure there are racists and bigots but no way does a black man get elected if we are still a racist country. Time for the cream of the crop in the black society to take over for those like Sharpton and Jackson who preyed on them using the racist charge. No excuses now. Time to move on

I know the difference - just made it short and snappy

I hadn't thought of that! That is a great way to look at it also.

Naw that's not the part I agreed with. It's the part of finally showing all those people who are set on using the race card everytime something happens. Hopefully this will open those peoples eyes.

Wonder if the poor blacks will give him a very long leash though. He promised a lot that he will be unable to deliver. He risks being labeled by them as an Uncle Tom who sold out when he does not provide all the goodies.

I think the real question is "Are the racists ready for a black president?". I don't want to be lumped in a group with the likes of people that still care what color your skin is.

I wonder if there was no television and it was never reported he was black... would he have gotten even more votes?

good point

and I would say yes there would be more votes. I know of a handful of people that stated they would not vote for him as he was black. but they also did not like his policies and likely would not have voted for him if he was white.

I know several people that typically side with the Democrats, but refused to vote for Obama because he was black. I also know there are several people that voted for him solely because he was black....

I guess it's two-sided really..

I think there probably are more that bothered to vote because he was black than those who refused to vote because he is black

For me race never was an issue. It meant nothing to me. I was against him strictly on policy.

I find it amazing that people still VOTE based on skin color. That's pretty wrong... but w/e. We'll probably never convince everyone that skin color doesn't matter, but we're certainly getting to the point where it doesn't matter for the vast vast majority, which is good.
