Is there a free alternative to add music to an iPod shuffle, without using itunes?

I understand when you use itunes, you can import your music for use. Dose it matter where your music "originally" came from?

Do you need a credit card for a basic itunes account?

Any help on this topic, would be very appreciated! I've spent hours reading/searching, I can't figure out if it's worth keeping this one either. MP3 players are so much more easy to deal with, lol... :surrender

Thanks in advance!

You need iTunes, an email for the account, don't have to put the credit card and no, it doesn't matter where the music comes from

As soon as a corrupted file gets to the nano, consider it dead forever and the controls break easy, don't even put it in water cause then the battery dies quick.

I actually dropped my iPod in water and I took it out like a second later and my brother fixed it for me.

:24: Nice! I have a Touch as well and I love it. I just wish I had gotten the 16GB instead of the 8GB. The 8GB was expensive enough, though. It holds all my music but I'd like to put videos on it and I don't have room for that. :thumbdown

I would love the 32 gig myself but this one will do for now....

The nano was pure evil to me, after it got a corrupted file, it crashed my computer... I never plugged it back in my computer after it took me hours to find what was wrong, deleted iTunes altogether, it still played music and i had a wall adapter for it, then the menu key wouldn't work... then the washer, it dying in 5 minutes... I hate the nano. Oh after the car I smashed it with my foot.

O-K, I downloaded itunes, and set up the shuffle. It was easy after all...
I just wish it would copy the files from my bot, instead of moving them, oh well.
Thanks again for the help.

Although I use iTunes purely because of the online store, there are alternatives like Sharepod, Winamp, Songbird etc which are pretty reliable.

Being Apple, it pretty much owns your computer after you install it. :mad

i have a shuffle (the older vesion) which has gone through the wash cycle a few times and still works. I usually use that one for long car trips. I also have an iPod classic 80GB that i take for work. I have my own library of itunes music that i had itunes rip from cd's
