CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — Iowa's laws restricting where sex offenders can live are causing some of them to reside at campgrounds around the state.

Some sex offenders are listing campgrounds in county and state parks as their home addresses because they are out of money, are struggling to find and keep a job and are facing state laws and town ordinances that keep them from living in many places.

"It's not uncommon," Linn County Sheriff Don Zeller said. "We've had them in all of the county parks and some of the state parks."

Information about sex offenders at campgrounds has been forwarded to the Iowa State Association of Counties for consideration as a legislative priority.

State law bars sex offenders with crimes against children from living within 2,000 feet of a school or certified day-care center. Certain cities have even gone farther, banning offenders from living within 2,000 feet of swimming pools, libraries, parks or trails.

I say that got to live somewhere. It like here GA, you can't have a bar close to a church. Why not? Why not say you can have a church close to a bar?

I just say if you can somewhat trust someone, why are they out of jail? A bank robber can't live close to a bank or drug user can't live close to a drug dealer. We can not control the world!

well if they had castrated them from the begining they wouldn't worry where they lived.

I dont see a solution in your Post Ms. B. Did I miss something here?

Castrating is a solution but more then likely the sex offenders problem is not driven by sexual urges. it is more about power and control over someone else. I think a lobatomy is more likely to resolve the repeat offnders temptation.

I think the circumstances with the 18 year old and 17 year old are different. Unless it is a violent rape or a child molestation

Let me rephrase it so you can understand. Not saying the 18 year old is molesting a 17 year old. Saying if an adult molests a child then a labatomy is appropriate.

An 18 year old isn't statutory, so it's only rape if the 18 year old isn't consenting.

I just have to ask, how many of these child molesters are repeat offenders? Someone who was convicted of it 17 years ago and has been
'rehabilitated' since then poses no harm. I understand that it's still a giant risk thinking like that, but comon.
