I like MSN, but i friggin hate the ads. Anyone found a IM that works with MSN video fully that is ad free? or a working ad removal tool? Ive tried Digsby (havent tested the vid yet) and Miranda.. (too complicated.. i like to tinker, but thats ridiculous)... thoughts?

Miranda too complicated? It's probably the simplest piece of software I've ever come across. It's also the lightest of all the instant messaging programs that I've used.

You're probably better off sticking with Windows Live Messenger though.
There's a patch called A-Patch. You can use it to remove the annoying ads, and also a lot of other crap that you don't really need. It's also extremely easy to apply, with a step by step guide when you're applying it.

Link; A-Patch for Windows Live Messenger, MSN Messenger & Yahoo! Messenger

I don't see the ads - I just minimise msn as soon as I have opened my conversations. I don't even notice them. There is a tiny text hyperlink at the bottom of each window but I didn't even know it was there until I checked now. They don't bother me at all.

The little ad link in the chat windows aren't so bad... I think the OP is mainly talking about the big one in the contacts window. Which can be annoying at times and also increases Messengers memory usage, whether it's minimized or not. Luckily it doesn't affect my system (8GB RAM =P) so I don't worry about the patch to get rid of it.

Just checked...

"
Does Pidgin support webcams (video)?

Does Pidgin support MSN video chat?

Not currently. It is planned. See below."

Right from the site.

thanks..

um is miranda that complicated.. no.. was i in the mood to try and make it do my bidding at the time... no. after editing 3 or 4 .dll's to try and get a skin to work and it didint. yeah will i kinda just dropped it.

I am aware of apatch, i was hoping to run skins which you cant due with apach (well msnplus! skins anyway.

but i have it figured out.. i am using msn, but with apatch and plus and no skins, but with the contact on the desktop feature and lots of transparency and with the "hide if away" click.. so when those lucky few pop on..i see them on my desktop...barely..

thanks for the help

Well, you see where it says 'help'?
Click that and select 'about messenger', or something similar.
It'll tell you what version you have.

Current version of Windows Live Messenger is 8.5.
Version 9.0 has been released as a beta. (for testing)

Upgrade your messenger, Audra. Mine looks like that.

As for the OP, the ads are what keep those IM services free to use. I use AIM to chat, MSN to sometimes chat but mostly just for my email, but its better for webcams, and yahoo I never have up anymore.
