Walk with me Grandma

She took my hand
and we strode out the door
A big smile upon my face
Hopped down the steps
Around the corner
And to the Sidewalk
We greeted Bear
The big, black dog
And continued on our way
To the corner of the road
Check both ways
And across we go
We talked to the cats
Pointed out the birds
And stopped to pet the dogs
She told me jokes
And taught me life
And let me have fun
We circled the block
Could see the house
But the fun didn't end
Walked up the steps
Gave her a hug
" Thanks for walking with me,
Grandma"

This poem was written by my daughter, It is a first step in a long healing process for her, But it is beautiful to see her writing again.

She lost her Grandmother 6 years ago, This is the first she has openly talked about her since.

That brought tears to m eyes. I lost one grandma when I was 14. I stayed with her EVERY day on summer break. I always caught the school bus at her house, etc. We were VERY close. It about killed me when she passed away at 56 yrs old from breast cancer.
My other grandma passed away last April 2005 from a massive heart attack. I have no grandmas left. And that poem described my life with my 2 grandmas perfectly.
Thanks, I needed that.

I am glad it can touch someone else,

My daughter was very close to her Grandmother, She was ten when she lost her, She never really dealt with it, she was always afraid to talk about it or anything because she did not want to upset or hurt her Grandfather ( not that it would have )

It is interesting, It sais alot about the way I felt with my Grandmother also. I Knew the pain my girl was feeling, But she just so worried about everyone else, that she would never allow herself to feel her loss.. It is good to see her express it. I hope to see more.
