6th of August 1945 the first A-Bomb was dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki

This memorial plaque was laid 20 years ago, in memorial for those who died and survived the first A-Bomb

Today, in my local park there was this memorial at this spot for those who didn't make it to the Tavistock event that was on the 6th

I am not in support of the bombing, but the rationale of the times and the simulations that were produced (crude as they may have been at the time) they predicted heavy heavy losses for the Allies. But it still is sad that those innocent people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We as a world learned something those two days. RIP those who passed on and to their families. Hoping we never ever see something like that ever again.

RIP. Didn't more people die at Dresden though? It amazes me that isn't talked about more, given that it was totally unnecessary.

Way more died in Japan from from US napalm in Tokyo and other cities, WAY more. But Hiroshima and Nagasaki were caused by two bombs instead of thousands, somehow in human ignorance we see the two bombs as worse. None of it is good, and ultimately, none of it is necessary given that both, not just one side, chooses a path of reason. It is almost certain that if the US decided to storm the beaches of main land Japan far more Japanese civilians would have died then those lost in the two bombings. Nonetheless, I hope it is never seen again on any country.

Technically what was used in Japan was called fire bombing, it is very similar to napalm and was used much the same way as napalm. The raids started in Tokyo in 1945, wiped out half the cities industry and Bomb a grid and not only does everything burn, but the oxygen is sucked out in the surrounded area, so who does not burn to death, suffocates to death. Not technically napalm, but definately napalm's predecessor.

Yeah, Napalm (as we know it today) was not used till the Korean war. Either way, it killed and destroyed far more people and buildings in world war 2 then the atomic bombs did. It is almost scarry to think that the two bombs resulted with less death then continuation of the fire bombs and a ground assault on mainland.

What happened in Dresden was equally as terrible as what happened with just two bombs, and as Sammy said, Tokyo suffered from napalm bombs
