In Lord of the Rings what are Hobbits really smoking?

I love those Lord of the Rings movies and notice that the hobbits love to smoke something called "pipe weed" What are they really smoking? They seem happy or mellow after smoking it. :humm:

If you go by what JRR Tolkien was influenced by, it's merely tobacco. He was a big pipe smoker and a lot of his lifestyle was reflected in his books, theology ect. If you read his biography, I doubt that the pipeweed was intended to be anything but tobacco, unlike JK Rowlings who jumped on the bandwagon to declare Dumbledor gay!
