Amazing how one day changes everything. January 31, 1981 was one of those days. I had a long day planned. First, I had to work that Saturday and as part of the SGA at AUM I was going to help set up a dance in the school cafeteria that night. Work was uneventful but I was tired. I get to the school and as we are setting things up I am sent into the kitchen to get ice for the dance.
I had been friends with one of the cafeteria workers for a while and she saw me and came over to speak. I was a little distracted because I kept noticing the long legged daughter of the cafeteria manager who was working the Chancellor's dinner that night. I had noticed her before but never mustered the courage to actually speak to her. My friend brought her back where I was an introduced us. We spoke for a few minutes. My friend kept finding reasons to send her where I was. Eventually we struck up a real conversation.
When Jenny was allowed to leave working the dinner we left together. We ended up talking for hours that night. Amazingly, I was not nearly as tired as I was earlier. 2 years later we married and she followed me to Dothan. Well 44 years later that day affected my life immeasurably. I love you more today than ever and all the moments of our life together.
