LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The trial of an Atlanta-area father accused of circumcising his 2-year-old daughter with scissors is focusing attention on an ancient African practice that experts say is slowly becoming more common in the U.S. as immigrant communities grow.
Khalid Adem, a 30-year-old immigrant from Ethiopia, is charged with aggravated battery and cruelty to children. Human rights observers said they believe this is the first criminal case in the U.S. involving the 5,000-year-old practice.
Prosecutors say Adem used scissors to remove his daughter’s clitoris in their apartment in 2001. The child’s mother said she did not discover it until more than a year later.

That is a disgusting practice and it should be outlawed. There comes a time when we should just say "to hell with your beliefs and practices, if you want to live here then you need to adopt OUR lifestyle. We don't cut our daughters' clitoris' off in the U.S.!"

This is such a barbaric practice. It's a shame that this is considered normal behavior anywhere in the world. Not only does it make sex unenjoyable for women, if not done right it can make sex painful. How can any person anywhere justify committing this cruelty on another?

Hope I'm not rambling off the point here but there does seem to be a certain amount of sexism here (not accusing any of you of this!:) )
When Lorraine Bobbit chopped her husbands penis off she became famous and it was regarded as funny. Now when a bloke chops a girls clit off it's disgusting. Personally I think both are barborous and disgusting but there does seem to be a certain level of hypocrosy in a lot of peoples opinions about things like this.:confused:

Not one of us has even mentioned that Bobbit woman, or said anything about it's funny to chop a guy's dick off. Not sure where you got that idea from Peter, but maybe I missed something.
I think that the practice of cutting off a girl's clitoris is mainly done in countries where women are viewed as second class citizens and the men don't care if sex is enjoyable for them or not.

Sorry I wasn't accusing anyone on here of that, sorry if I didn't make that clear:) I was talking about the attitude in general or probably the press's attitude to thinks like this.

Well you know how the press can be. They will sensationalize anything to get a story. But this goes beyond fucked up. I think we all agree on that. I hope the man goes to jail for a very long time.
