I cant believe it has been 5 yrs since 9-11. It breaks my heart to think about it all. There is a song out that is really heart wrenching when you listen to it. Its about 9-11.

"Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you in the yard with your wife and children?
Or working on some stage in LA?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor?
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?

Did you burst out with pride
For the red white and blue
And the heroes who died just doing what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is Love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Teaching a class full of innocent children?
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor?
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?
Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened?
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages?
Speak with some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow?
Go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent home movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers?
Stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family?
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, Hope and Love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is Love"

What killed me the most is when the passengers started calling their loved ones to say goodbye. I dont think i need to explain anymore.

I'm on the west coast, so I woke up to seeing it on tv, as I was getting ready that morning. I remember what a shock it was, and at first, like everyone else, I thought it must have just been a huge mistake for the first plane. Then the second one hit, and I wasn't even fully awake. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. I didn't go anywhere that day. I think a lot of people went home or stayed home that day. The whole nation came to a stand still. It's still hard to believe that it's been five years, because seeing those video's on tv make it seem like it's happening again.

It breaks my heart every time someone mentions that date.

I was on the USS John F Kennedy then. We had just left that morning for a month long underway period. You know what surprised me the most was when we got back we saw all these cars driving around with American flags on them. People were flying American flags in their yards. I found it a bit shameful that it took an attack on American soil for some of these people to forget all the PC crap and start being proud to show their Patriotism again. Unfortunately it didn't last very long.
There was a rumor going around that some of the Terrorist supporting Muslim leaders were making a call for all Muslims to make it a goal to kill one American each today. I kinda don't believe it though. Seems like a bunch of propaganda to me.

hmmmm
I don't think this all has to do with patriotism. It has to do with innocent people dying.
I remeber the day like it was yesterday. I had just finished eating and my mom as making the dishes. In the news they said that there had been an accident. A few minutes later the other plane crashed. We realised what was happening just then. My mom started crying.
I will never forget.

Well I agree that it was about innocent people dying as well. My whole point was that it shouldn't have taken such extreme measures for people to show their patriotism. It has just gotten so ridiculous in this country with all the PC bullshit. We are so afraid of offending someone by showing patriotism. It makes me mad is all. I've noticed here in Spain that the Spanish certainly aren't afraid of showing their patriotism. The Spanish aren't hindered by PC. That is one thing I very much admire about the Spanish, they could care less if anyone is offended or not. We, as Americans, especially after the events of 9/11, should be the same way, just like we were 20 or 30 years ago.

In some ways we are a little afraid too of showing our patriotism, I guess we fear being considered racist or fascist.
However, I just wanted to say I love my American brothers and sisters, as much as I love the Spaniards, and I pray to God that what happened in 9/11 or in 3/11 never happens again.

And I love you too! Uh, I mean WE... we love you too! You know, you do have a point though about Spaniards being a bit afraid too, especially after the Madrid bombings. I guess it's more or less an Andalucian thing. These guys have a more laid back attitude, and that is really surprising considering how much of a Muslim influence this region has had in the past and how close we are to Morocco. Then again, Morocco isn't really know for harboring terrorists.

I was watching a video when it happened. I pressed stop at the end and the TV was showing live news. I thought "Arn't there two towers there!" before the horrible truth struck me. Terrible day and RIP all the victims including one guy from my hometown of Harlow here in England. I could argue the politics of what has happened since but I won't here as I don't want to distract from what this day is all about - the innocent victims!

LOL! you always keep on making me smile!
yeah people in Andalucia are more possitive and optimistic. The relationships between Spain and Morroco have always been good (regardless if this is a good thing or a bad thing).

i think it was like the 2nd or 3rd week of college for me...i wasn't awake yet, and one of my roommates came banging on my door, and all i heard was "transco tower got bombed!" (The Transco tower is the tallest building in houston, and was about 5 mins from where i was living at the time). I got up in time to see the 2nd tower get hit, and I started FREAKING out because this whole time I thought this was happening minutes away from my house...then the news finally set the story straight..I was slightly relieved but not really. Classes were cancelled for the day and I went home to be with my family.

worse than watching the news and watching the plans hit for the 900th time, were the moments of silence on the radio and on tv today....
that an listening to "amazing grace" being played by the troops around the world :(
