I'm going to do some reading over the winter. I'm looking for a book that takes an unbiased look at religion and how it shapes/corrupts/changes the lives of people.

Like i said, I'm not looking for a book written by an athiest, nor am I looking for one written by a priest, rather by someone who trys to look at it from both sides of the fence.

Has anyone read such a book or know of one?

I'm also looking for other good non-fiction books to read if you have any suggestions.

Franny and Zooey by J.D Salinger, maybe? It's not completely about religion, but it definitely focuses on how various religious concepts change the lives of people.
