Patriots last Super Bowl win was in 2005
Red Sox last championship was in 2007
Celtics last won in 2008
Bruins just this past year
I think our dry spell was for a long time as well and it seems to have creeped back into the sports talk radio shows. we live in a "what have you done for me lately" society and while you think it maybe the sports scene is tilted, its not. Super Bowl victories from the Saints, Packers, Colts, Pittsburgh, do make the league a better place, but teams like the Yankees, they deserve to lose!!! (Sorry, angry Red Sox fan) don't forget we too had an 86 year drought between championships too. and I think that even though Steve Bartman caught the foul ball that ruined the 2003 Cubs, he can't be blamed for all of that. I could tell you I still hate Aaron Boone for killing my 2003 Red Sox and Mookie Wilson and Bill Buckner for ruining 1986 for me...I can and do feel your pain man. It is a good thing when you win and when you are losing all the time or coming up short in championship games or series the sting hurts even more...so chin up my man and be glad you have a team to cheer for....

What stings the most are the World Series appearances by the Cardinals and Astros earlier this decade; and the World Series win by the White Sox. Every sports franchise in Chicago has won their respective championship in the last 15 years, and we haven't ever won an NL Pennant. We have three NL Central titles and a Wild Card in that time frame, and nothing else to show for it. The other part of it are the two Red Sox World Series wins after the 86 year drought. We all thought that it was our turn next... and well, 7 years later and the best we've done is getting swept out of the NLDS in '07 and '08. Here's to hoping that we get someone like Epstein (or Epstein himself) in here to run the team... Hendry practically destroyed our farm system and ability to field a winning team with his trades and bloated back-loaded contracts. I want someone that understands the importance of things like OBP, speed, and efficient pitching... someone that can put a team together based on our ballpark and division, someone with enough knowledge of traditional baseball techniques, and new Sabermetric evaluations to be able to field a consistent winner.

You're right about Bartman... even if the ball had gone foul without him touching the thing, I think we win that series. The problem wasn't so much the fact that he was a moron and reached over the rail into fair territory; the problem was the mental lapses that it caused. We went from getting the second out of the inning, to having to continue the at bat, the Prior wild pitch, and well... we all know the rest. But we can't blame Bartman for Dusty leaving Prior in that game for too long when he had obviously been tiring in the 7th.

God, that series is still painful to think about.

You forget that the Broncos won the Super Bowl after the '97 and '98 seasons. ;) The Dolphins last won in '73, and the Cubs in (19) '07.

The Cubs should have beaten the Marlins in 2003...that one play... never mind, it would drive you nuts...Billy Buckner is a name I will not forget...that one is still painful to watch on tv....even though we have won it since, still pains to watch

Buckner did not cost them World Series though PJ.

Boston just choked

Schiraldi gave up 3 straight 2 out singles and Stanley a wild pitch before Buckners error which tied the game after Boston went up by 2 runs in the 10th inning.

Bostons manager for some stupid reason did not put in Stapleton in place of Buckner despite the fact he had done so in earlier games a couple of times. Why he would keep Buckner in makes no sense as he was hitting terribly in the World Series that year. Bad coaching

Even though Buckners play ended that game Boston still had a game 7 to play which they led by 3 runs going into the bottom of the 6th.

Because my teams are always nothing better than mediocre. The Dolphins have sucked for the last like 15 years, the Cubs are well... they're the Cubs. The Bulldogs have been mediocre for most of the last 15 years. The only teams that's experienced much in the way of success have been the Spurs and the Coyotes. But I'm not a huge basketball fan, and the Coyotes have been knocked out of the playoffs in the first round the last two years.

It's just frustrating to root for these teams that pretty much never have an opportunity to even get close to a championship. Meanwhile you look at the fucking city of Boston that has something like 9 championships in the last 10 years. It'd just be nice to have one of my teams actually win something for once. Sure, I could go be a bandwagon fan somewhere, but what would be the point in that?

/rant

And other than men getting paid millions upon millions of dollars for playing a game, exactly what does winning a "championship" mean to men who don't play the game but watch it on TV?

Hey, it was great that "my" Phillie's got a championship in 1980 (I still have the banner LOL) and they won another one a couple of years ago, but in reality you know what it's done for me? Absolutely NOTHING. Bottom line, there are more important things in the world in sports (and I remind myself of that after the Eagles start this year LOL).

The odd thing is I was a New England Patriots fan well before they became a dynasty.

When they won their first Super Bowl back in '02, I thought that was the only Super Bowl win I'd enjoy see them win for years. Little did I know that their was much more to come.

So Retro, hang in there. You never know what the future holds, because if the previously lowly Patriots can do it, so can your favorite teams.

Retro, one good thing about being a fan of teams who haven't won championships in eons is that you really appreciate it if they do start to win.

Trust me.

:homo: Not that any of my teams have won championships in years but believe me, appreciation will be had if they ever do. Cheesecakes will be baked and eaten gleefully. Maybe even some cookies. Heck, I might even go on a joyride down 8th Street honking my horn wildly. :D

I will admit here and now that I cried when my team won the Grand Final last year. It had been 30 years between drinks, and last tim e they won I watched the game with my dad who was still alive then.
