Since it's not, in my opinion, possible to comprehend at this stage in our development whether there is a God or not, the possibility of multiple higher powers seems just as likely as there only being one.

Hell, if there's anything we know about, it's reproduction :p it would seem unusual that there be just one of a particular entity - where could it have come from in the first place? But again, that assumes that anything powerful enough to bring a universe into creation would have any grounding in our own understanding of how things work.

If we take as a given that other life has evolved "out there", than I think it reasonable to presume through that evolutionary process of growth, than that species too reached for a greater understanding of their natural and physical universe as they were developing.

In the beginning they too would have lacked the ability to understand their environment and the "why" of it. In Robert Campbell's The Power of Myth, the result is that in every culture and development there was a mythology or Godhead (sometimes multiple) established.

Eventually through time the certain mythologies were forgotten, or assimilated into others, and ultimately condensed into a central godhead. Or two, or three, depending on various beliefs.

But, I am viewing your postulation through the lens of my own prejudices, and attributing a humanistic perspective to something that I have no fucking clue about.

Ponder the people who claim to know God. Was there any logical though process that occurred or just blind embrace of Big Daddy in the sky cause it feels so good?

I don't think there needs to be multiple universes to have multiple gods. Although if the God of Abraham ran into another God then I can imagine him saying something like, "this universe isn't big enough for the two of us, Pilgrim." ;)

This is a profound statement. When you think about it, when do you ever find just one of anything? If you do, it probably means you're not very good at looking.

If you believe in the creation by a god theory, if would surely be logical that you also believe someone made god otherwise where did he come from unless he evolved? Therefore, surely there must be other gods.

This is one of those areas where I'm very aware that as always, to even discuss it we have to assume that a higher power is subject to the same general principles that govern our own existence.

I personally think anything powerful enough to create a universe in the same place may be way beyond our comprehension.

There is only one of you?

lol Are you implying I'm my own species?

Yes, everyone is unique but there are billions of human beings.

Good point. Discussions like this are very unlikely to stumble upon the truth. But it's either discussions like this or nothing. And it's human nature to be curious.

Does anyone really know anything on the subject of multiple universes?
