The raindrops were washing
The tears from her face
As she stood in her backyard
At three am.
She didn't know
I was watching from my window
As she threw her arms out
And ran against the wind.
The rain had painted on
That little white shirt
Which barely covered her thighs.
And she tiptoe danced
Around the garden gnomes
As she brushed the hair
From her eyes.
The rain washed all around
As she lay herself
On the ground
And turned her face to the sky.
And I saw her fly.
I saw her let it all go.
Pull the sky into her soul,
And breathe it out again.
I saw her fly.
With my forehead pressed against the glass
I was praying this storm wouldn't pass.
I just wanted to see what she'd do next.
But the rain was slowly dying down.
And she picked herself up off the ground
Pulling fingers through her hair.
I watched her as she smiled at the moon
Like a secret was shared
Just between it and her.
And up on her tiptoes once again,
As her lips still held that glorious grin,
She stretched her hands up to the sky.
And I saw her fly.
I saw her let it all go.
Pull the sky in through her soul,
And breathe it out again.
I saw her soar.
As the last fading thunder roared
And her struggles and cares slipped away.
I saw her fly.
The tears from her face
As she stood in her backyard
At three am.
She didn't know
I was watching from my window
As she threw her arms out
