i am getting it......if you have a talent for something that makes you a leader in that field you push yourself so you can earn the high wage......why should they have it all took off them?......and remember this.....a top actors salery comes from sales world-wide not just america....so in effect with they're tax being calculated by percentages they're already putting alot of new money into the system

California's state income tax for individuals making over $47,056 a year is 9.3%. That's already insanely high, $47,000 a year is barely enough to live on in some parts of the state. Then there's a 7.25% sales tax, which can be higher if you live in their "special taxing districts". California's revenue isn't the problem, their insane spending is. Their top tax rate is second only to New York City in our country. The top 1% of earners pay 50-55% of the total revenue. In June, their defecit was $24 BILLION. That's AFTER they raised taxes to close the $40 BILLION defecit they had. Raising taxes isn't going to erase that kind of defecit.

Burdening people in the state with taxes that are higher than their current outrageous levels is just going to drive them out.

In addition to the above arguments, its way too easy for people with serious money to just change their legal residency elsewhere....

And that has been happening

Dana you can not tax the rich excessively to make up for what is a flawed economic system. There is not enough money the rich have to accomplish that. So then it just filters down to the rest of us.

Wow Dana, you're a flipping moron if you actually think that'd do anything. Also, thanks for by extension asking that my taxes get raised, as I already get taxed 9.3%, and its hard enough to make a living where I am, and I live in one of the places in the state with the lowest cost of living. Our economy sucks because the liberal democrats in our legislature decided that it made more sense to spend more money than we made on ridiculous and unnecessary programs. They drove businesses out of the state in droves with the anti-business sentiment that seems to be prevalent in Sacramento, and now they're working on putting the farm industry out of business as well. A whole ton of companies that used to be in California moved to Nevada because of their stance on businesses, and the fact that they led a very good marketing campaign to try and get companies to move there.

This state is well on it's way down, and we have the idiot democrats in power, and the republicans that are there just let them do whatever because they don't have any spine. But taxing people even more isn't going to do shit, all it will do is lower tax revenues because less and less people will want to live here. I'm planning on moving out of the state as soon as I'm able, and I've lived here for all but 6 years of my life.

MI has lost almost 1/5 th of the jobs in the state in the last 10 years. CA is driving out business too. They both have spending and tax structures that have been unsustainable. Yet nothing in the way of reform has been done.

Meg Whitman for Governor of California

I'm becoming more and more certain she's who I'm planning on voting for to replace the failure that is (R)nold.

She is damaged goods though after what she did to HP. At least that is what the reports are.

You guys need more than her anyway. You need to get some fiscal conservatives into the state house and senate. First on the agenda should be retirement reform for the public sector employees. It is absurd what they get. In my city it costs a million dollars a year on top of the million from the year before every year to play catch up. That is not sustainable.

yeah because they make up 100% of the population of California and that will fix everything won't it?

Did you ever think they are already getting taxed at a higher percentage for simply being more wealthy? along with their agents, producers..etc.

And let's not forget about all the tech companies in Silicon Valley...

Or let's do forget about all the people whose career will last longer than ten years and just make the actors and actresses and singers and athletes pay all the tax.

This is exactly why ALL the states need to raise taxes by 500%. That way the bastards won't have anyplace to hide.
