I took my weiner dog outside to go to the bathroom a short time ago. There we were at the edge of my woods(I just moved into a fairly secluded house on the Lake) peeing on a tree. (our bonding ritual) When all of a sudden I heard a loud shuffling in the woods, it was more of a... sweeping though. A few seconds later followed ear piercing screams coming from the same direction. It sounded exactly like a woman stumbling in the woods and screaming.
I looked down at Rudy and he was looking up at me terrified. We looked like two bumbling idiots running for my back door.:willy_nilly: I tripped over him once and he squealed, rolled and kept on trucking. The screaming continued even after we made it into my house.
I kept watching out my window waiting to see who or what it was. The screaming stopped and about 10 minutes later I saw a big red fox run across my lawn and into the woods on the other side. I'd always heard that red foxes communicate by screaming but I had never heard one. I need to find a recording of one. I kid you not, it is loud and shrill and I don't know how to describe it.
