Government does not equal our country. Those two terms are not interchangeable. You can hate one while loving the other without conflict.

Don't you mean he actually hates the current leaders? I hate to take the thread to semantics, that's always a silly tangential topic to pursue. Our system of government is pretty spectacular compared to what some of the rest of the world endures. Not perfect, by any stretch of the imagination. But I think he'd be better represented to state that he hates the current regime of leaders.

Perhaps I am reading this based upon my connotation of what "government" means to me.

Upon research, government means: the governing body of persons in a state, community, etc.; administration.
So going by that, you said exactly what you meant.

But government also refers to: the form or system of rule by which a state, community, etc., is governed.
And I think our system is pretty good.

I'm leaving this line of discussion 'cause I think we're done. Everyone understands where the other's thoughts came from now.

It really does amaze me how seriously people take a bit of cloth!

It's not about the physical bit of cloth. It's about what the bit of cloth symbolizes. It's our heritage, it's our history, it's our country. Disrespect what something symbolizes, and you disrespect our country. I find this dispicable of Americans to do.

There is no reason that any flag should be flown above the American flag here in this country. It's disrespectful to all Americans.

Not to mention it's illegal to fly any flags over the American flag on American soil...
