I am so sick of water retention from PMS. It just makes me angry or maybe the PMS is also adding to how pissed off I am :mad My period isn't due for another ten days but I've already gained SEVEN pounds in water weight! This just started happening like 4 months ago. Every month I gain ten pounds the week before my period is due to start and then I lose it all the day after it finally starts. But it's driving me crazy, I start gaining water weight almost two weeks before my period, which is ridicolous. And I watch myself so closely, I eat ZERO processed foods, probably less sodium then the recommended amount right now! I run twice a day every day and push myself really hard, and half of my diet is duiritecs, I live off of bannanas and asparagus, seriosly. But every month it makes no diference, I swell up like a balloon, and it all goes straight to my abdomen so it makes me look like I've gained 20 pounds instead of 10. Normal people gain like 2-3 pounds a day or two before, but I gain 10 two weeks before! Can someone tell me they have it just as bad so I don't stay so mad about this lol. And should I go see the doctor? Can he do anything?

Bri, if you're already eating less sodium than recommended AND ontop of that you're running everyday and doing all this diuretic stuff, then you probably need MORE sodium and maybe this strange water weight issue is a result of that.

Kind of like people who want to lose weight starve themselves and slow their metabolism?

I don't know though - and I would go see a doctor to see if he can do anything - that is a bit much - ten pounds??!!

drink plenty of water.. oh and take a water pill. That always helps with the bloating. I know your eating right, but a water pill is ok too.

That is NOT a good diet. Your body is probably retaining fluids as an "emergency mode" type situation.

Half of your diet is diuretics? thats just crazy....your doing yourself more harm than good and your body is probably rebelling.

Some types of yoghurt can help with the bloating. The thing with water is you can't have too much or too little.
But yes everyone is right, your diet is kind of, well, not right...

My metabilism has gotten better in the past week... I have more energy and er more frequent bowel movements. And very healthy looking Urine. I don't starve myself at all, I just eat mostly veggies/fruits but I always have at least one lean cut of meat every day (chicken, salmon, tuna, etc), and plenty of whole grains like whole grain bread, crackers, etc, I read labels of stuff and it says the percentage of sodium it has based on a 2'000 calorie diet and I usually only eat like 30- 50% total... I am consuming 1000 - 1200 calories a day tho, so I guess that would be right on the mark with how much sodium I need, right?

The rest of the month, the other three weeks, I don't retain any water at all and I am otherwise completely healthy. So I don't think there is anything wrong with my diet. I only consume more natural dieriutics during the time of the month I retain water, it's not like it's an all time thing, but I don't see what could be wrong with eating so many bannanas and asparagus and drinking more green tea anyways lol
