I am so outraged right now over the way our wonderful President Bush is handling the tragedy in New Orleans. Why isn’t he ensuring these people’s safety? Why can’t we send 100,000 marines to get those people out? Where are all of our vehicles that should be used to help us? Just where is OUR military? Excuse my French…but to the hell with Iraq. If they are going to go crazy over there…that cannot be our problem any longer. Let them deal with their own uproar! We need to take care of ours!

Here’s an excerpt from an article I read today here that had me crying at my desk at work: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationw...1sep01,0,4489032.story?coll=la-home-headlines

"We pee on the floor. We are like animals," said Taffany Smith, 25, as she cradled her 3-week-old son, Terry. In her right hand she carried a half-full bottle of formula provided by rescuers. Baby supplies are running low; one mother said she was given two diapers and told to scrape them off when they got dirty and use them again.

At least two people, including a child, have been raped. At least three people have died, including one man who jumped 50 feet to his death, saying he had nothing left to live for.

Why are there children reusing diapers? Why don’t they have an adequate supply of water and formula for these kids…OUR KIDS! Hell with the Iraqi’s…WE need the water, formula, the help! Why are there children being raped? Where are our troops? We didn’t have sense to keep enough here to protect our own country?

Can you imagine holding your 3 WEEK old baby wondering if he’ll die from diaper rash? Wondering if he’ll die from hunger, dehydration? Wondering if your 8-year old daughter will be traumatized any more than she already has? I can honestly say that I would be in the group of those desperate enough to shoot their way out of that cesspool!

Where is OUR government? They are supposed to protect US not Iraq!!!

They came in when price is right was on and said the president was going down there to Alabama, then Mississippi, and finally New Orleans to see how things are going. Apparently he was very dissappointed, but didn't seem all crazy about it. He needs to get off his ass and do something IMO. I think before help can get to New Orleans, something really bad is gonna happen, like rioting, or mass hysteria. I don't think those people are gonna remain calm much longer.

Bush freaking kills me!!! He is finally speaking out. The fuggor stayed on vacation while these people were loosing their lives??? He now…on day 5…says the relief efforts are ‘not acceptable’. The why the hell doesn’t he bring some troops home and take care of his family. Can you believe that fuggor is just now…just today…taking a look at New Orleans!?!?!?!?!?!?! And he doesn’t even have the gull to actually get out and look. He’s going to fly over it like some supreme being. Someone needs to shoot him!

As far as the looting is concerned…I have 2 very extreme thoughts.

Those people that are shooting others to get the electronics, or the drugs, or jewelry that someone else may have stolen are a disgrace to America! They are making fools out of us! They deserve what they get. I back the martial law for these people…shoot on sight. They are hurting those people that really need and want rescued!

On the other hand…if I were stranded there…and the govt was not taking care of me, I cant say that I wouldn’t be stealing diapers, and water…I cant say that I wouldn’t kill just so I wouldn’t have to watch my children dehydrate to death. I can’t say that I wouldn’t hijack a car…or kill to get out of there.

The shame about the looting and unrest is that the people that are really doing what they need to survive are not the problem. There are no reports of a murder over water or formula. But there are reports of 5 or more murders a night! Why are they murdering each other? Why are they not helping each other? When the tsunami hit those 3rd world countries…did they loot and steal and kill??? NO!!! Even if they lost everything, they did what they needed to do to help more survive. And who is the superpower?

Those that fall into the first category of drug addicts, and non-human beings are making this tragedy so much worse, and they deserve to die! They do because with every passing hour, minute, even day more and more die! Please let the few workers there do their job!!!

Wow, I’m sure I sounded scary in my above posts, but man I’m at my wits end over this. I wish there were something more I could do. To see the pictures of the mothers holding their children…knowing there is not even water to drink…just makes me ill!!

With all the drug addict…looters…rapists…murderers there in New Orleans….

I still blame BUSH!!! He needs to get off his ass and get it together. We need our National Guard HERE!!! They belong to the nation of AMERICA!!! NOT IRAQ!!! Why is he not aiding those people?? Why does he care so much about the disarray in Iraq, but on day 5 he FINALLY thinks he needs to show his concern for New Orleans?!?!?!?!?

Just think…what if this were a terrorist attack. Would we be in the same confused mess? Does he not think another attack on the US could happen? We would be in worse shape than we were at 911!!!

I can say one good thing. I am proud to be an from Arkansas after what I saw yesterday. I saw about 25 Convoy trucks from the national Guard heading out to New Orleans from Little Rock, AR loaded with all kinds of things to help these people. It just about made me cry.

when certain situations arise, such as the loss of crowd control in NO, the people tend to resort to more primative actions. i saw an abc special report about where the govenor? of mississippi was telling GWB about the damage... what would be appropriate would be to actually walk with the people inside the damage, and apologize for taking so long.

someone said something bad is probably going to happen before anything good really happens...

in a few days, i will be writing a letter, handwritten, to the senators of my state, as well as the representatives of the house, outlining the greivences against the current government. they will be required, as by our constitution, to take action, threatened by the dismembermant of our current government, and to form a new government as deemed necessary by our people.

I just got back from Wal Mart and the shelves are just about wiped clean from everybody buying things to help all these people. The baby food aisles were ALL empty. Thats a good thing though.

Jesus Christ CareBear. The disaster happened a week ago. What do we live in the movies? Do you live in a f ucking movie? We're so used to seeing the president pick up a phone, make one order and the entire stateside batallion is moving out within 24 hours in the scenes of some of the best war movies.

My brother in law is in the military. Shit like that just DOES NOT HAPPEN. There is months of planning, months of organizing that goes into getting troops, peacekeepers, food and medical aid to the needy. You can't sit here within a week of when the hurricane hit landfall and with a sober thought in your head tell me that the US can simply mobilize "100,000 marines" in that amount of time?

Can you?

Please tell me you can't?

I'm sorry but getting pissed off at Bush isn't the answer. Getting pissed off at the military isn't the answer. Being pissed off just isn't the answer at all.

well, there is one thing your forgetting about: hurrican season happens every year... so apparently planning is not happening, as such this disaster shows.

You can't have an absolute plan set in for every city on the Gulf Coast and expect this plan to work for a specific city all over the coast. Set plans and rules don't apply to every city. You don't need 100k people to for an evacuation and rescue on a town of 2000 people. Hurricane season happens every year, but not every hurricane becomes a Category 5 by the time it reaches landfall.

Planning, & drilling are just that. Planning and drilling. You can't tell me that practicing disaster relief can be that effective with such a broad range of population centers.

The problem with New Orleans was that they built Levvy's which at the time they were built, were only expecting to hold Category 3 water and wind levels. They were immediately overwhelmed when Katrina hit. The secondary problem with New Orleans is that the pumps stopped working and the damn city sits UNDER SEA LEVEL on a marsh which, before man intervened, was A FREAKIN FLOOD PLAIN.

I agree getting angry at Bush is not the answer. He came back from vacation early and went out there. He said he was not happy with the way it was being handled, and said more needs to be done. He signed a thing for 10 billion dollars to help the people, and said that 10 billion was just the beginning of what he would get.

People get mad at him about gas too. It's not his fault. He said try not to buy gas if you don't have too. There isn't a gas shortage, and Bush is not telling gas station owners to charge what they do. What it is is a fuel delivery problem. They have gas, but getting it where it needs to go is a problem right now. They are considering bringing back fuel lines from what I heard to help. Also with the closing of many oil places, there is less gas being delivered, which equals higher price that gas stations have to pay to get it, which equals more expensive.
