Hurricane Katrina seems to be hitting landfall about right now. I was very sad yesterday when seeing the reports of people that were refusing to leave. On one hand, I wouldn’t want to loose my home, or business, but you have to be alive to rebuild!!!

So, question of the day…would you have been one of the ones leaving at first sign of her, waiting until the last minute to leave, or ones not leaving at all?

Myself, I would hope I would be one of the first ones gone because I’d be scared to death sitting on that highway hoping to escape in time.

I would get the hell outta dodge!!
Hopefully a majority of these people have like flood insurance and stuff on their houses. Well, except for the ones who rent and they'll just have to count their losses. And its sad too. And hopefully the ones who have children were smart enough to just run and not look back. But you know there are always a few dumbasses that are gonna hang around thinking its no big deal.

Even when you rent you can get insurance on your personal belonging…even flood insurance. But I know when I rented, insurance was not high on my list of needs...so sometimes I had it, sometimes I didn’t!

I haven’t seen any reports for a couple of hours now, but last I heard there were hundreds of people on top of their houses waiting to be rescued. I’m not looking forward to hearing the death toll of this storm. Some of these people were tired of being evacuated. In the past 2 years they’ve been evacuated so many times without being hit, I guess they just hoped it would turn a different way.

I don’t think The Big Easy will ever be the same!

Definately one of the first out. I was down in Pesacola last September for trainning when Hurricane Ivan came thru. I saw what these storms can do and have no desire to sit in one. Leaving late is about as bad as not leaving at all. Traffic doesn't move for hours. People have to drive a couple of states away just to find a hotel to stay in. Get me out at the first sign of trouble.

I just heard that some of the people that are still there are now calling people from other states to come rescue them. Why the hell did they wait until the last minute and Im sorry but I dont know if I would risk my life now to go over there and rescue some people who were too dumb to leave when they were first told to evacuate. But I do wish that everyone could be able to escape this horrible event.

wOW, sounds crazy. I havent read much up on Katrina, sounds like its worst than the ones that hit FL recently. Scary.

I know, I don't see why people wouldn't go somewhere safer than just sitting in their homes! I've heard on CNN that some people didn't leave their homes because Camile hadn't done any damage to their home in 1969. I think that's stupid- storms don't choose where to damage and not to, so why the hell would they think they're immune?

I feel bad for the people who truly couldn't leave... but those who sat around for fun are idiots.

The pictures are really sad. Especially with all the flooding.

It is very sad. All of those pictures and reports are very depressing. There are thousands of people that are stranded on top of their houses and need rescued. The death toll is certainly going to rise. I don’t understand what would make them stay. Just go…its only a day if nothing happens, or your life if something does!!!

Where have you been man??? There in GA you should have been feeling the effects later that night. A friend that lives in Atlanta said there were horrible thunderstorms on Monday night...tornadoes, etc.

Did anyone see the report of the man that was crying. Even the reporter was crying. He was in his home with wife and kids when his wife somehow became in danger. He held her hand for as long as he could while the water rushed in, until he could no longer hold her. As she slipped away she told him to make sure to take care of the kids...then I assume she was whisked away to her death. OMG the pain in his voice...you could feel it. He was wailing that he "lost his wife and his home and he has nothing. Thats all he had. His wife is gone now hes lost."

Wow, I'm welling up with tears just typing it.

The more I hear about this catastrophe the more my heart hurts. They are talking about the rescue efforts. They are passing the dead to try to find more living. They have no idea how many people will end up dead after all of this. In watching the footage of people with axes that were in the attic, but had to chop holes to get out of the attic onto the roof, I think about the worst. I imagine there will be lots of bodies that were trapped inside the house that they might not even find until the water finally goes down.

It's pretty bad. Those people should have listened when they were told to evacuate. They said a few more feet of water could destroy the cities water system. There have even been freshwater sharks spotted swimming around the city, they came from the lake. Coffins and bodies everywhere..It's pretty bad. I feel bad for those going through it.

Exactly Joe. It's way worse than when we got hit with Frances and Charles. I lost power. But I'm in Middleburg, so not much happens.
