How would phrase this?

I was talking to Matt and it got me thinking that the way I phrase this is weird. My instinct is to say the first option, although I think the second option probably falls more under the "proper" way.

Which would you more likely say?

The phrase is awkward to begin with because it's sort of an idiom.

" I have to do the laundry" is the way I usually say it though.

My favorite, "It is raining outside." When it is raining inside you have real issues.
