who introduced it to you? did you play football as a kid? I remember one summer my uncle and I watched three matches in one day and I loved it...I may not know all the stars of the day, but it is exciting to hear the cheering and the crowd...

I'm English, I grew up with the biggest sport in my country and the world. You'd have to be deaf and blind to be able to not know anything about football and the World Cup over here, lol! Probably the first World Cup I have any memories of is the 1982 one. The first really memorable moment I remember though was Maradona's hand ball against England.

We grew up playing soccer and I've always loved watching it. I think the first World Cup I actually paid attention to was the last one or the one before.

the "hand of God" game? that was the first time I remember watching that one and all the criticism behind it...it was as if world war III was going to happen!

Pretty much through the whole culture following it, I mean hell even people who don't normally watch football watch it. Also through family/friends watching it.

The first World Cup I really remember was 98, watched the England-Tunisia game in school, the others at home because they were night kick offs.

same here of course, though I prefer rugby these days coz let's face it, we do much better in that...

Ahhh the hand of God, wasn't that mexico '86? I remember watching that too, must've been like 10 or something. The ref must've been insane: a tiny little argie out-jumping a 6 foot goal keeper at full stretch.... yeah right....
