The only times I get those moments is when I'm reading on this forum due to the amount of people on here who talk in American.

I read A LOT! and I mean A LOT as my mind is over active and i find books ease that, so very rarely will i not understand a word unless I'm reading a book where the author's culture is different than my own, or its old English I have not studied completely. In those occasions i normally pause and do a bit of research.

yes, it happens..
some times I come across some words I can't understand. usually if I could guess the meaning, I wouldn't care.. if the sentence wasn't important, I wouldn't waste my time to search for the real meaning of it..

I just care and try to find its meaning if I felt that I may miss some of an important meaning from what I was reading

that is all

I like looking words up as sometimes I get another, or deeper, meaning of the word than the one in my head. Is like shifting a lens a little to get clearer definition. The word then sticks to me like someone else stated, and I am more aware of it and run into it for a while. Sometimes the whole of the work I'm reading gets a little different when I look things up. Especially older writing and older dictionaries. I try to pair the age of the writing with a dictionary from that time period.
