Any network and computer guru will see right through that.

I just hide all my private stuff within about 3-4 folders. Since I'm the only one who uses the laptop anyway it doesn't matter.

Just zip/lock the folder to password-access, fairly simple. That way, they can still see the names of the files, but can only access them with a password.

Any network and computer guru will see right through that.

Umm, that just makes the person want to know what you have locked up...The point is to make them invisible so that they didn't know anything was there at all...
