When it comes to service I am very patient as long as the servicer is polite and doesnt try to feed me BS.
A simple I'm sorry goes a long way with me.
If I'm starving I'll start eating the crackers.
I really hate waiting in line to spend a fortune to eat a meal that is not worth the cost.
I would rather eat at mcdonalds or fast food.
If the service is just straight up rude I will try and ease their stress with an innoscent joke
if that doesnt work and they look at me like im stupid I will be up and leaving.
If the food sucks Ill just politly tell them in hopes of retribution.

This really depends of on the situation. If I have my kids with me I have zero patients. Actually my kids have zero patients. If it is just me and the wife out at a resturant I am fine. I could wait all night. Depend on if your in a rush or not. If your in a rush then eating out never works.

Just remember that waiters and waitresses are human too. When it gets busy in the restaurant they may forget that they seated you. I'd politely speak up before thinking about leaving.

When I worked as a cashier, there was one instance where I was helping a customer load up her cart with a bunch of 12 pack sodas. I completely forgot about my own register and didn't realize that a customer was waiting to be checked out. Sometimes it just happens. Naturally, I got a lecture from the customer when I returned to my register. Good ol' retail.

My wife worked as a waitress for a little while. Due to her experiences I am far more forgiving than I once was. However just being forgotten is wrong. Had I got a semi-respectful response from the manager we probably would have gone back.

Another story of me and restaurant misadventures. My wife and I had a $50 giftcard to Applebees. They are running some real good deals so we figured we could get 2 meals out on the gift card. First night the total was like $27. I left the server a sizeable tip for what he had to do for us. (I did not realize how sizeable at the time.) We go back a few weeks later and at the end of the meal I give our server the giftcard. He comes back in a few minutes to inform us there is nothing left on the card. I start rifling thru my wallet to come up with the money for the meal. My wife takes the card and her cell phone and calls customer service. Seems the server from visit number one helped himself to a $23 tip. We call the manager over and he talks with corporate. Comes back to our table. Tears up the ticket for the night. Apologizes profusely and gives us another $25 giftcard to come back another time. He earned a lot of respect from me that night. I will tell you I was beyond embarrassed when I wasn't sure I had enough money to cover the meal.

I'd love to know if the manager talked to that server about the amount of tip her put on your bill.

My wife almost ditched me on our second date when we went to a restaurant and I saw people sitting and I turned around and told her "lets go". I don't wait to pay for food unless I now have to. If I'm seated and it takes the waitress longer than 10 minutes to get to me, I'm out of there.

No offense, but that's impatient, IMO. It doesn't matter how long it takes your food to get cooked...there are tickets ahead of you usually. Or maybe I'm just too patient???

I'm patient as far as waiting for a table...if I don't want to wait, I'll go somewhere else. Not a big deal. As far as service goes, I'm patient TO A POINT. If my drink doesn't get refilled when it's needed (mind you, I rarely need a refill when at dinner unless there was a long wait for the food) or I don't get checked on throughout the meal at least once, I'm not happy about it. I have only had 2 instances in my life where I didn't leave a tip. Once was at Applebees...we had to go retrieve our own silverware b/c our waitress never brought it and then I had to get up and go refill my own glass b/c the waitress never came back. Plus I was given honey mustard dressing (I absolutely DETEST mustard) for a salad that actually had the word "RANCH" in the title (always makes me giggle when waiters or waitresses ask me what type of dressing I want on my Caesar salad, too...ummmmmm, Caesar???). The other was at a place called Tubbys on River Street in Savannah. The wait was long for a table, it took 30 minutes to even get our order taken, and our food took an hour and a half to get out. When it DID come out, the kids' hamburgers were bloody. When we refused to tip for the shitty service, the waitress refused to serve us anymore. I have never gone back and will never go back to that restaurant...I would eat Waffle House first.

Also went to a local seafood place w/ a couple of friends one night before hitting the bar. Menus were on the table when we got there...not one single waitress or waiter came close enough to our table to even think about getting a drink order. After 20 minutes we got up and walked out. One of the friends that was w/ us was so embarrassed about us walking out that he actually lied to the hostess on the way out and said he got called out on a shooting, LOL

I sympathize with you Aufred...my time is taken advantage of far too often by the restaurant scene. My boyfriend and I, like you and your family, are on a budget. We choose a night or 2 a month to be able to go out or order in. I cannot stand when you go to a place (especially one like IHOP who should be fast because they're a franchise for Christmas sake!) and have to just wait and wait and wait for everything!

I am usually fairly patient in terms of getting my food, but I'll be damned if I don't get my drink, or a refill, or a "hey, how are things here." TIP is optional people...at least outside of Europe...

Not everything gets cooked by keying in 5:00 on the microwave, buddy. Sometimes you have to wait for the good stuff. :D
