Technology changes all the time. By the time you finish reading this message your computer will probably already be out of date! Keeping up with technology is expensive business, how often do you do it.. every 3 years, when your computer breaks down etc..?

I use my computer mostly for surfing the net. It doesn't require a very fast processor to use a browser on a PC so I never find it necessary to buy a computer often. The computer I own right now was bought in 2008. And I intend to use it for the next few years. I'm not stingy, it's just that there's no point in buying a new computer when this one I have works well enough.

I don't necessarily buy a completely new computer, but I will swap out components every two to three years, I have built my own computer.

The last time I did have to do a pretty big overhaul. New mobo, main drive, and ram. The only things I really didn't have to change were the monitor and power supply, however, I may need a new monitor soon as I am experiencing some weird color distortion in the corners.

I have never bought a brand new computer, in my life. I just can't afford it. Everyone, we have ever owned was refurbished. They all work very well. The last new one my family got was a laptop meant for my son. But, he did like it. He doesn't like change. He took my old laptop and I ended up with the newer one. It turned out well. I work from home and the new computer was made for that. I guess, the man who put the software in the computer for us, a family friend, knows my son well.

I buy them as needed and then I tend to get one with decent specs as I know it will be outdated next year if I don't.

My last computer lasted 4 or 5 years I think. I just need to replace a thingy and it will be as good as new. I bought a new one anyway because I'm lazy like that. I don't care about the latest and greatest.. my needs are met, the rest is a waste.

I have epilepsy and a few times while having seizures I have actually crushed my laptop. If that happens & my computer is beyond compare then I need a new one.
I will tell you one thing after all I have heard about windows 8 I sure wouldn't upgrade or get a computer loaded with that.

I haven't bought a new computer since 2007, which I had the Mac Book laptop for about 6 years now. Before that, I usually buy a new computer every 4 to 5 years or so. I don't often use the computer, therefore, I don't often replace a new one.

The computer I am on now was bought back in 2005. A few upgrades and major changes done later. It is still alive and kicking better than before. Eventually, I will buy a laptop for myself and keep this as a family computer. Though, this is my baby and I think a few more upgrades is in place.

I bought this computer two years ago, and so far it works pretty well. Unlike most computers where the components are pre-assembled, this computer is customized with various parts. I also have a laptop, but I will be acquiring a much better one in a few weeks time, as my old laptop has a defective keyboard, particularly a non-functioning spacebar and a non-responsive shift button.

I upgrade my computer rather than buying a whole new one. I normally wait a while after new releases and then make investments to future proof my PC for 1-2 years.

Same here.
My ole laptop with two gigs of ram and a dual core pentium was good specs when I bought it and now would be considered an entry level machine.
I have an old desktop with a intel celeron single core and 384m of ram also good specs for the day

Just bought my new Win7 machine after 9 years with XP. Slowly getting a feel for it. It came with discs for Win8 but I have no need for that.
