I just thought this might be an interesting thread to start. Now, depending on how you look at the question, "what is truth", it can be viewed in different ways.

On the one hand there could be an "absolute truth" of some sort, which would mean that there is only one right answer to every question, and to every situation, and therefore (according to that logic) every other answer is wrong.

On the other hand, there could be such a thing as "personal truth", as I'll call it, which is truth depending on someone's perspective, opinion, and upbringing. By this logic, what is correct to you may be incorrect to someone else, thus how debates are born, lol.

So, what do you think about these ponderings? Let's hear it.

There is no such thing as an absolute truth. Individual perspective taints all.
I used to believe in truth but not anymore.
Just watching network news will answer your question.

Say do you guys think there may be different categories for truth, so to speak? I mean... for example, in mathematics, 6 +6 = 12. If you tried to change math around, some things in the real world won't work too well, things that depend on correct math anyway, hehe.

But when it comes to politics or religion--that's when "truth" varies, I think... people have their own opinions and such ;)

There is truth, and there is not truth.

Opinions are observations and conclusions based on "customized" truths, truths, "customized" not truths, or not truths, or a combination of.

Debates are discussions or conversations dealing with opinions, which may or may not become "heated," depending on the parties involved.

I believe in absolute truth and that man turns away from it which lends us to the mess of personal truth in which we all live in.

Truth exists but easier and attractive thoughts and avenues bring us to an almost screeching halt in progress.

There are absolute truths, things that are a certain way regardless of weather or not you think that way or recognize it. Example: The Universe Exists. This is true, regardless of weather or not your upbringing told you otherwise. No matter what you think, it is TRUE that the universe exists.

There are subjective truths. As long as they are held in accordance with the rationality and the recognition of an existing universe and existence, then subjective truths have a basis on which to exist and can exist. Example: Cooked ham tastes better then cold ham. This is a personal truth, which varies from person to person, but it is held in accordance with rationality and the recognition of absolute truths - that the ham exists in both cold and cooked variants.

So it's basically what Donnajoe said, just elaborated with a little objectivist twist.

Truth can be interpreted.

Honesty is really simple.....

I mean, I think people use the interpretation issue to muddy the waters, it's simple...Are you fucking lying or aren't you?

That's what I teach my kids, that's what we are supposed to learn/teach. To tell the truth

"Did you break that window son"

"I don't know Dad, that's open to interpretation"

I don't fucking think so, people will use just about anything to justify what they know deep inside isn't right or truthful.

Interpret this :cool
