I broke up with my girlfriend more than a year ago. I left the country thinking that I would come back. However, being dependent on my family, they convinced me to stay so I can change my bad habits. I dated this girl for 6 months and I spent more than half my day with her. To say that I was with her 24/7 would literately be the truth out of my mouth.

I occasionally have flashbacks of the last moments we had together before I left for my flight. I felt free when I left her and I actually felt a lot of weight off my back. I was always mind controlled by this girl. I mean she would call me, and basically make me stay up with her all night on the phone or she would threaten to break up with me. I drove myself crazy thinking that I did something wrong when I really didn't.

What do you do to move on and open your heart to a new girl?

Jump. That's all I can say.. just do it. We always come away from breakups thinking it deserves some time of mourning or something, but it really doesn't. It happened, it was good or bad, but right now is all that's real. Whether you like it or not, just ask someone out.. even casually. At first it won't feel right, but it honestly helps the process get started. Nothing heals a broken heart like finally moving on. Especially when you click with someone new. And ESPECIALLY when that someone new is better for you. Sounds like your "loss" was a win. I do suggest being single for a while though.. nothing is more healing than finding yourself, but if your time is spent wallowing over your ex, it's not time well spent.

The first thing to do is to accept the reality that the person you are moving on from is already history. And that they would never come back. The second thing is to ensure that you open up yourself to meeting and being with someone that would not be like here. That's the easiest way to start the moving on process.

Sometimes getting busy could just help. you need to tell yourself that the person wasn't gold for you. Then focus on your life and the realities of things

It is easier to sag than done. However, in any case, you have to move on, you cannot remain stuck for a long time in your situation. Time heals every thing.

Moving on involves accepting the past, allowing myself to grieve, and focusing on self-care. I take it one day at a time, set new goals, and surround myself with positive people and activities that help me grow.

That's a powerful and healthy approach to moving forward. Accepting the past while allowing yourself that space to grieve is so important for healing. Focusing on self-care, setting those new goals, and surrounding yourself with positivity? That's the recipe for growth and building a brighter path ahead, one day at a time.

It sounds like you went through a really intense and, frankly, controlling relationship. That feeling of freedom when you left speaks volumes. Those flashbacks are understandable; intense experiences often leave lingering imprints.

To move on and open your heart again, it's about continuing that journey of self-discovery you started when you left. Give yourself time and space to process those past experiences without judgment. As you heal and rediscover your own rhythm, you'll naturally create space for new connections when you're read

That's a really direct and action-oriented perspective! You're saying to just dive back in, that the best way to move forward is to start moving forward. There's definitely something to be said for not getting stuck in prolonged sadness and using new connections as a catalyst for healing. And you're right, sometimes what feels like a loss can actually be a step towards something much better.

You've got a solid point there – sometimes simply occupying your time and energy can be incredibly helpful in shifting your focus. Reminding yourself that the relationship wasn't the right fit helps to reframe the narrative. Ultimately, redirecting that energy towards your own life and current realities is key to moving forward.

You're absolutely right – putting those ideas into practice can be tough, no doubt about it. But that underlying truth remains: you do have to keep moving forward; staying stuck just prolongs the pain. And there's real comfort in knowing that time, in its own way, does tend to soften even the sharpest edges.

Give yourself time, feel your emotions, lean on support, and focus on rebuilding your life step by step.
That's a really kind and thoughtful approach. Giving yourself that necessary time and allowing yourself to truly feel those emotions is crucial for genuine healing. Leaning on your support system provides strength when you need it most. And that focus on rebuilding your life, step by gentle step, ensures a solid and lasting recovery.

It hurts but the more hurt you will experience with the way she treats you. It's better to go on separate ways to find the right love. Move on and find love again. Never give up on love.
