BLACKSBURG, Virginia (AP) -- Weird, but harmless. That's what some people around the Virginia Tech campus once thought of the man now accused in two fatal shootings, the subject of a manhunt that shut down the campus for hours on the first day of the semester.
William Morva never wore shoes and used to talk about how much he liked to go deer hunting and commune with nature, said Madigan Milford, a Tech student from Berryville who worked at a downtown coffee shop.
"I thought he was weird," she said. "I would even say he was crazy, but harmless crazy."
"He was always kind of a fringe character," said Brian Segal, a Tech senior who said he knew Morva in passing.
