back in the 70's or early 80's a player for Toronto .......... Borie Salming was stepped on in the neck while down on the ice. there have been a couple other bad ones. amazing it does not happen more often

Oh yeah I remember that one, it was a very scary freak accident. It doesn't happen often in the NHL thankfully.
