Just thought I would pass this information on for those of you that are interested. I keep seeing friend's post the Walter Reed address on their Facebook w/ notes to send cards there...for those of you not aware, that does NOT work and your card will be returned unopened.

However, if you would like to send a card to a soldier, the Red Cross does have a program for that:

http://www.redcross.org/holidaymail

The address is:

Holiday Mail For Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Oooh, I just noticed this, too...you can select a card from the website, type your message, and have them send it to a solider all for $1!!!

Guidelines for cards that are sent:

Ensure that all cards are signed.
Use generic salutions such as "Dear Service Member."
Only cards are being accepted. Do not send letters.
Do not include inserts of any kind, including photos, as these will be removed during the review process.
Please refrain from sending holiday cards w/ glitter. Many of these cards will be delivered to military and veterans medical facilities and the glitter could interfere w/ the patient's recovery.
We encourage participants to mail as many cards as they are comfortable sending. If you mail a large quantity, please bundle the cards and place them in a large mailing envelope or use a flat rate box from the post office. Each card does not need it's own envelope, as cards will be removed from envelopes prior to distribution.

That was easy and fun. I e-mail some of my friends, it only lasts until 12/9 and only cost me $2 to send one via e-card!

to be honest i'd rather send a soldier a 6-pack or something

LOL...well these cards go to soldiers and veterans in hospitals so I think the 6-pack is out of the question. But when the soldier friends I have come home, I make sure to buy them a beer. ;)

I went to the link that you provided and read this:

All cards being sent in for 2011 Holiday Mail For Heroes program should be postmarked no later than Friday, December 9, 2011.

Guess I'll be busy tomorrow instead and get them in the mail by Friday. :D

I'm glad I decided to look at the link. Although..... I suppose if a load of cards did show up after Friday.... I bet they'd be delivered anyway. Silly not to.
