HIV can 'never be cured'

Even the best drugs currently available cannot weed out HIV from all of its hiding places within the body, according to a new study of HIV patients in the United States. The discovery seems to confirm doctors' suspicions that once the virus gains a foothold, it can never be fully eradicated from the body.

After years of aggressive drug treatment, the virus still hides out in significant reservoirs, particularly in tissues surrounding the gut lining, the researchers report. Cells in these tissues, a part of the immune system called 'gut-associated lymphoid tissue', remain infected with the virus even though the patient may be leading an apparently healthy life.

Many HIV patients can manage their infection with a cocktail of drugs called antiretroviral therapies (ARTs). These can reduce their 'viral load' — the amount of virus circulating in the blood plasma — to undetectable levels.

But the new study shows that even in such 'non-infectious' patients the virus is still lurking in gut tissues, and still infecting other immune cells in the blood.

I'm sure it can be cured. But they just haven't found a cure yet. I saw this conspircy I forgot where I saw it though. But it was saying there is a Cure for HIV, AIDS, and Cancer. But there like Billions of Dollers.

I do not believe any of us will see a cure for any disease in our lifetime. Mutation is uncontrollable and genetics are hard to change.

they are working on it feverishly .. I was a participant in the study going on at UAB here in town actually .. up until a year ago .. my schedule just got to hectic and I wasn't able to keep the appointment times they needed :(

Not true. I believe they found the cure for Polo.

I am assuming you mean polio.
What you are trying to say happened didn't occur in my lifetime or yours.
And the disease itself is not cured, hun.

If you are inoculated, you cannot contract it. If you are not inoculated and you contract it, you most certainly cannot be cured of it at that point.

Presently it appears that it's been eradicated. The fear is since so many are going without being inoculated, that IF it somehow got re-introduced into the population, it would become epidemic. And infection with it is NOT curable.

So yeah, I stand by my original statement.
