This is the best forum ive found, and i need to ask other people what they think.

Im 20 years old, and havent accomplished much this past 2 years. Im thinking about joining the army reserve so i can pay for my Respiratory Therapist training( i have no idea how much it costs). Im pretty smart and live in San Antonio, best medical field there is. I know that medical jobs are in high demand, so its been tough narrowing down what career i want. What do you think about what im doing??
Is LVN a better choice??

Thx

I know the navy has a good med school for coreman...I don't know much about the subject really just make sure you want to make that commitment to the military before you join just for school

The army offers training for corpsmen... wait, I mean the navy since they're known as Navy Medical Officers. That's about all I know too, Bacon.

First off, Welcome to the site! :welcome

Second off, the military is a big commitment, so if you are wanting that type of commitment to go alone with schooling, then go for it. I know the air force lets you go to school as well. good luck with what you decide to do. ;)

pass on the military....what you could do is take some classes and hook up with the hospital and they can finish paying the school for ya in trade for you working for them.....I see it all the time....and with you beening in the hospital if you don't like that there is alway being a RN my bud does it..makes 60-65k year

Respiratory Therapists are in high demand. Don't go into nursing...that's where everyone regrets the amount they paid to get what they do.

Or you can try Imaging Technician degrees...they make more than most of the staff at any hospital...but they won't tell you that. You'll just see it when they drive up in some $65k car while you're driving the same thing you've been paying on for years. *smiles* Not from personal experience...used to be a running joke at the ER.

Oh...and since you're in SA, don't EVER go work in Seguin at Guadalupe Valley. There's a good reason it is nicknamed Death Valley...believe me, I know.

Moral of the story: therapists and technicians are the way to go.

One of my friends is a RT and he started off working at a DME/GAS company, that paid for him to take various classes and what not also including EMT certifications. Now he does new patient setups on C-PAP's, nebulizers and all that good stuff, not to mention sleep study analysis. Maybe look for a local company or Home Healthcare buisness to get a start at?
