Is this for real.. This video shows some elected members voting for multiple people, even across party lines, who might not even be in the house ?

In our system, the count is still done manually for a reason, and that is so the vote is associated to the person casting it in our house. It takes no longer to get a result and they are assured that all members are present that vote..

If this is the case would it not be easy for someone to claim the opponent voted for some bill when in fact he was not even present. If someone was to keep count of who voted for what they could easily report it back to the party for the other candidate to use in the next election and that person would have no way to fight this on major issues.

So do you really know what each candidate is really voting for if this is the case ?

I love the excuse they have a lot of votes

Tough shit

If it is something requiring a vote then you should vote

If that means there are too many votes then hello... Maybe that is because there is too friggin much action being considered by govt

This is some kind of sickening

How the hell this is allowed is beyond me. Nah, not really.... These bastards think they can do whatever the hell they want.

Doesn't that scare you as a citizen ?

I mean, will you now start to wonder if your candidate voted for others and or had votes done for him by others ?

Your 100% right in all they used was excuses.. Food, Bathroom, blah blah blah. Like some need it more than others. what about the people not in the house as per the comments of the people at the end of the segment.. Makes you wonder..

True, but I am curious.. How many are you aware of that vote electronically or is Texas the only one ?

Manual votes are a guarantee of roll call.. You must be present and cannot have someone else vote for you.

I'd be surprised if any states do a manual roll call.

I took a school trip to the state legislature in Albany and learned that they vote electronically by pressing buttons at their seat.

This is what the seats should look like.. No Laptops, no Cell Phones aloud in the legislature.. Security can had them anything they require in an emergency should they need it..

It's the Texas legislature.
Yes, and I'm sure they are absolutely unique in all the USA, right?
I wonder how OK legislators vote. I spose they just yodel it in from the corn fields. ;)

Francis, you're right. This is disgusting. I don't see how they can answer questions like "How do you justify voting for Bill X?" if they weren't in the room. What if someone pushed their button voting opposite how they themselves would?? It baffles me that this only made it to local news. It should be pretty easy for a reporter to show a representative voting on a particular bill while simultaneously speaking out of town. Those voting buttons looked pretty old so it's obviously been going on for a long time.

I am amazed this type of illegal stuff is permitted to keep happening and in fact is not only condoned but encouraged by the members themselves..

And again how do they face the electorate saying "they did their best and that they voted and appeared" for such laws when in fact they have no idea who did..

E-Voting ( electronics ) is being challenged worldwide for the fraud associated with it.. By far there are far to many opportunities for people to take advantage of the system as it stands..

Oklahoma legislators are less stupid than Texican legislators. It's a matter of simple mathematics - there are less total Okies therefore less cumulative stupidity than in Texass.:p

Did you watch the Molly Ivans video? It's funny as hell and truly shows the stupidity of the religious right in politics.

Texas made it illegal for a penis to come into contact with an anus - YES - I'm not kidding. After the vote, one Texas Republican patted another on the back. A Democrat legislator quipped "Madam Speaker - arrest those men! It is now illegal for a prick to touch an asshole in Texas. :24: :D

The legislator in your vid claimed it was because people needed to take bathroom breaks and such. They must have a freaking huge bathroom to fit all those missing people!
