He can act, but can he debate?

In an unusual political season that seems to offer up a presidential debate every week or so, the Republican debate tomorrow is expected to offer something new: Fred D. Thompson.
Untested in debate against his opponents until now, Mr. Thompson, a late entrant to the race, chose to skip the last contest in favor of announcing his candidacy on “The Tonight Show” early last month — a decision for which he was roundly criticized.
Many have been wondering how Mr. Thompson, a former senator from Tennessee, will do. By his own admission he is “a bit rusty” when it comes to debating, and he has said he hopes he will be able to “hang in there” with the other candidates, including Rudolph W. Giuliani, the sharp-tongued former New York mayor, and Mitt Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, who is known for his polished delivery.
look at some of Mr. Thompson’s debates years ago offers a mixed picture, with the candidate mostly projecting calm and confidence against Representative Jim Cooper, his Democratic opponent for the Senate seat in 1994.
Mr. Thompson’s delivery back then was usually smooth and expressionless, not a monotone but not displaying much charisma, either. He sounded articulate, speaking in full, well-rounded sentences, but stopped short of eloquence.
Even when he was on the attack, or firing back at a rough question, he rarely lost his cool.
Speaking of Mr. Cooper, he deadpanned, “There’s nothing more desperate than a career politician facing the prospect of having to get a real job for the first time in his life.”

I find the title of the article hilarious, but not uncharacteristic of the New York Times.

Fred Thompson - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Thompson has worked in the judicial and political forum for a long time with plenty of accomplishments. Thompson is not an actor first as the title of the article portrays him as.

Hey Amy, Thompson has plenty of ties to Tennessee. What do you think of him?

But he is an actor first and foremost just like the article reads and Fox labels him.

I didn't catch the debate.

But I found this on utube and liked what he had to say.

So you won't read an article from the NY Times, but you post a video from Fox? He can say anything he wants on Fox without the fear of being challenged or questioned... :dunno

He is not an actor first and foremost. Read up on Thompson.

And I don't give a crap about Fox News. The Utube shows Thompson talking - that is not Fox reporting news - that is info straight from the horse's mouth.

:dunno :confused

And I'm not the only person that is stating something about the news reported by the New York Times. Donnie and Homer have stated their distaste for their news reporting as well, but yet you only address me?

You must really like me, eh? ;) :flowers:

No that's not it at all. It's just the fact that you won't read an article from the Times, but you'll post a video from Fox.

Maybe it's just the fact that I'll read and view anything that's posted, even if I don't consider the source reliable. If I think there is questionable facts, I'll look them up. But at least I'll read it if it's in context to the story.

Again - the video was not Fox reporting news, it was straight talk from the horse's mouth. Two different things. I don't care for Fox news either.

And as explained before, if I read an article from New York Times, I know that I will then have to go read the same article off of Fox News and then put the two together.

I don't have that kind of time. I read about 100 pages of text a day. I come on here for entertainment, not an education. :)

I know it might seem straight from the horses mouth but telly does often edit things to take it out of context to suit their agenda. Not saying they did here, but it's something to consider, they do it all the time for reality shows and I suspect more than we realise on the news too.
